4. The Vigilante

(Aiden's view)

My name is Aiden Pearce.

I've become a revenger since my niece died in a car accident last year. They said it's an accident, but I'd say it's a murder. One day, I drove my niece -- Lena -- to somewhere. Her brother Jacks was at school, so he couldn't come with us at that day, and her mother went to work. In order to take care of Lena, I decided to bring her to a park planning to go fishing together.

I still remember our conversations on the way to there...

"Drive where?" she asked.

"Anywhere!" I reply with cheering voice.

"I don't want to go anywhere, I want to go the PAWNEE! (Pawnee is a countryside erea near the city, she and her brother love to go there on weekend)" she said happily.

"Hahaha. Ok! You are the boss. We're going to Pawnee."

Suddently, there were three motorcycles driving beside us, and a man put out a gun, shot my car tires. It caused my car crashed to upside down... I lost consciousness.

When I woke up in the hospital, a doctor came to me, said "I'm sorry." And I know what was going on.

This thing has always been my nightmare. I couldn't sleep at night.

For Lena, I will find out who is behind all of this, the murderer, and the reason why they wanted us to die. I swear when I find out, I'll make them pay.

Protecting my family, taking revenge of Lena are now my only priority. If there is someone trying to stop me, I'll take them down too.

I'm on my way to Nicky's house. Nicky is my sister. She is Lena's and Jacks' mother. After the tragedy, I seldom visit her.

Today is Jacks' 10 years old birthday. They held a party this afternoon. But I could't make it on time. Although being late for one hour, I still want to see them face to face. I've been missing them very much...

When I arrive, I feel a little nervous. 'Cause this is Jacks' first birthday without Lena. 

"Here I go..." I head to the backyard.

Nicky and Jacks are siting on the bench, playing a new toy happily. As I walk to them, Nicky stands up and walks to me.

"It's been a year... You come to see us!" She says and hugs me.

"I'm sorry. I'm late. I miss you so much..."I say to her.

"How have you been?" she looks at me for a while, "You look older!" says giggling.

"Oh, nice!" I reply with my hand pushing her. I'm glad we can still joking like this.

Jacks walks to me with his new toy. 

"Hey Jacks, how are you? Can I hug you.." I haven't finished my sentence and his arms already surround my waist. A feeling of sadness comes up to my mind... Poor boy...

I hug him back tightly.

"Let me see your new toy! Emm... 'A Healer'? Cool!" I say to him and pat his head.

He smiles happily. I haven't seen he smile for a long time... 

After that, we have a lunch together. In the middle of our chatting, Nicky's cellphone ring.

"Hello? Who is this?...What do you say?...Stop calling me! If you call me again, I will call the police!...Did you hear me?" she suddenly goes to the front door to check the lock. 

"Who was the man in the call?" I feel something wrong about the call.

"He was just kidding. You don't need to worry about it." she tries to remain calm.

"But you are checking the lock! Just tell me the man who disturb you..." I think she doesn't want me to find this man and deal with him, or...make much more trouble.

"Oh my God Aiden! You didn't change! Every time you want to fix it, you just make it worse! Please let it go!" she yelled at me angrily.

"Fine. I better go, too." I say to her and walk to the door.

Jacks is shocked. I look at him and sign. There's not much I can do for him. At least not now.
