Daddy's still here.

Life with boys

"Dad, um...meet Jacob." Maddie stands in front of me with a boy who is around her same age.

"It's nice to meet you sir." He says holding out his hand, I take it and we shake.

"Don't make my little girl cry." I say staring him down.

I physically see him gulp and Maddie glares at me.

"Dad!"

I shrug and watch them leave, but Maddie stops in her tracks and turns back to me. She runs into my open arms and I hold her tightly. "See you later daddy."

"Be safe sweetheart. Be home around 11 please."

"Ok daddy."

She smiles at me as she lets go and walks back to her date; I wave to them as she gets into the car and they drive away. She is a junior in high school now. Going to the schools, homecoming dance. It's crazy how old she is getting.

"Where does all the time go?" I say looking at a picture of Abbie and me on the coffee table.

I take a seat on the couch and turn the tv on; flipping through many channels until I find one that I haven't watched in a long time. House. laughing a little, Abbie loved this show. I remember the first time I went to her house as her official boyfriend we sat there and watched house for hours. We laughed and teased, then would consider somethings on there in our situation and what we would do. Then the rest of the time we make out. She could barely keep her hands off me......ok I had a hard time too. She was gorgeous and she was mine. I run a hand through my hair as the small smile that appeared settled down.

Those times seem so far away.

"Baby kiss me." Abbie says in a pretend whinny voice.

"But your dad and mom are in the other room."

"Soooo?"

"I don't want to get you in trouble." I wrap my arms around her in a hug.

"Baby please." She sticks her lip out in a pout.

I stare at her for a moment and then there it is....the dreaded puppy dog eyes.

"That's not fair."

"Pretty please?" She looks me dead in the eyes with those eyes and I'm practically play dough in her hands.

"Ugh. Fine, but only a quick one."

"Yay." She whispers before smashing her lips to mine.

From the simple little kiss, it got heated way faster than I expected. We were in our own little world until we stop froze when someone cleared their throat next to us.

We pulled away from each other and my face was on fire, I glanced up at Abbie's father as he stared down at us both.

We all stood in silence for a moment, I was beginning to fear for my life.

"Great job sonny! Welcome to the family!!" He bursts out and grabs my hand, shaking it dramatically.

I thought I had a heart attack.

I stared at her father as he let go of my hand and then hugged his little girl.

Just as quickly as he came in, he left and I was statue.

"Baby?" Abbie says scooting closer to me.

I don't move.

"Baby, are you ok?" She touches my shoulder.
