The Young Friend

Joshua's Point of Veiw:

"Joshua come on we leaving now!" My mother yells as I hear my parents walking out the front door. I hurry down the stairs and I pass my dad as he locks the door.

I hop in the back seat in his car. My dad then gets in the car and he starts the car up. "Everybody buckle up." He says kind of grouchy.

We drive for some time, but after some time we pull up to a nice home. I step out of the car and open the door for my mom. I help her carry the two liters of sodas we brought.

We walk up to the door and I ring the doorbell. The door opened and was answered by a pretty young girl who didn't look older than ten.

"Hi." She said shyly starring at me. Her mother then came to the door. "Hey you guys come in come in." We walked in, and the young girl continued to stare at me.

When our eyes met she smiled at me, I smiled back and her cheeks turned dark pink and she ran up the stairs. She watched me through the railing of the stairs as we walked to the kitchen.

When we got to the kitchen I set sodas that were in my hands on the counter. Then we talked for a little bit, until it was time to eat.

"Mommy can I sit next to him?" The girl said pointing to me. "You have to ask him sweetheart."

"Ok!" She shouted walking toward me. I bent down so now we were face to face. "Can I sit next to you pretty please?" She asked. "Sure, but first tell me your name." I said standing back up.

"My name is Evelyn." She said proudly. "Oh what a pretty name. My name is Joshua or Josh for short." I said smiling. "Can I call you Joshie?" She asked looking at me with anticipation. "Sure you can." I said. "Ok I will" She said with glee.

We all got our food and went to the dining room. Evelyn plopped down right next to me. "So Evelyn how old are you?" I asked. She turn and giggled holding up her hands and said "I'm eight years old."

"Nice, I'm eighteen." I said. "Joshie can I ask you something?" She looked at me with her icy blue eyes. "What is it Evelyn?" I said focusing on her. "Can we be friends?" She asked with such an innocent face. "Of course we can kiddo." "Yay!!" She shouts and hugs me.

After dinner we sat in the living room and chatted for awhile. "Hey Joshie can I show you my room?" She said hopping off one of the couches. "Um Evelyn that's not such a good idea." I said

"Why not?" She asked with sadness in her eyes." Well its not appropriate that we would be alone, because I'm a boy and your a girl." I said. "Oh ok I understand."

"Oh Joshua, its ok I trust you." Her mother said. "Are you sure its ok?" I said raising one eyebrow. "Sure I'm sure now you two go, go play; besides your parents have some important stuff talk about with us."

"Come on Joshie!" Evelyn says grabbing my hand and tugs me up the stairs. "Ok I'm coming Evelyn" I said walking with her.

She opened the door to her room and she said "Look isn't my room pretty." "Yeah its is pretty." I said still standing in the doorway.

Then Evelyn grabs my hand and pulls me all the way into the room. "Do you want to play a board game?" She say smiling wide and sways side to side.

"Umm sure, what do you have." I say looking at her. "Hmm, lets see, you wanna play candy land." She says grabbing the game from her shelf and handing it to me. "Sure lets play candy land" I said setting it on the floor and start setting up. We played about twelve times and she won all twelve times.

"Now what do want to do?" I ask her. "Can you read me a book?" She asks holding a thick book out to me. "Ok I'll read you a book. I said sitting in her beanbag. She climbed into my lap and handed me the book.

I started reading it and she smiled and giggled when I did the voices. "Joshie are you really my friend? Or did you say that just to make me happy?" I stopped reading and looked into her big blue eyes. "I really am your friend." I say hugging her.

She then hugs me back "Thanks Joshie for being my friend." Then I say. "Friend? I meant you're my best friend." "Really? Oh your the best Joshie!" She squealed. I continued to read, and then stopped when I noticed that she had fallen asleep in my arms.

It was then my mom and her mom came up to her room "Awe that's so adorable." Her mother said. "Let me get a picture of you two." She said pulling out her phone. "That is so cute. Looks like your daughter really likes my son." My mother said also taking a picture.

I moved slightly not trying to wake Evelyn, but she opened her eyes and rubbed them. "What going on Joshie?" She asked. "Your mom and my mom took a picture of you falling asleep in my arms." I say.

"Come on Josh its time to go." "Awww I gonna miss you Joshie." She said about to start crying. "Oh come here." I said hugging her "I'll miss you too kiddo" We walked down the stairs and her mother said "Evelyn lets go time for you to go to bed."

Then Evelyn said "Wait since Joshie is still here can he tuck me in pretty please?" My mother said, "If it's ok with your mother." Her mom nodded and I walked back upstairs with Evelyn. I picked her up and sat her in her bed "Goodnight Evelyn." I say hugging her.

"Goodnight Joshie hope to see you again." "I hope to see you soon too." I say. She blows a kiss to me. I smile and walk out of her room. "Hey Josh I was just talking to your mother and was wondering if you would be able to watch Evelyn tomorrow?" She asks. "Sure why not." I say. "Thanks so much." Her mother says. "Oh its no problem at all." I replied.
