The Need to Protect

Joshua's Point of View

I woke up to the smell of something cooking. I grab my shirt and put it on. I walk downstairs and see Evelyn in the kitchen. "Mornin Joshie, I made you breakfast." She said smiling. "Aww gee thanks sugar, your spoiling me." I said starting a pot of coffee.

She grinned with glee as she brought me a plate of food. "Um Joshie would it be alright if I could hang out with some of my friends from school?" She said grabbing a plate for herself and piling on food. "Yeah you can hang out with some friends, but I gonna go with you to make sure you'll be ok." I said.

"Ok thanks Joshie." She said kissing my cheek and started stuffing her face with the pancakes she made. "Sugar slow down, it not the end of the world yet." I say putting my hand on her head. She laughs when I say that.

"What's funny about what I said." I say furrowing my eyebrows at her. "Nothing, it's just the fact you said end of the world, like that's going to come in our time." She said still laughing.

Just then a loud smash came from the living room, and I hear tires peel off. I see a rock with a paper taped to it. I picked up the rock and took the paper off it and read it.

*That girl needs to die. If you give her up no harm will come to you but if you don't we will end you too.*

I looked at it funny and Evelyn was scared to death. "What does it say Joshie because I'm really sacred." She asked. "Don't worry about it I will protect you." I said.

"Please Joshie don't let anything happen to me. "Evelyn says sobbing while she says sobbing staring at the ground. "I won't let nothing ever happen to you." I say hugging her. She squeezes me tight. "I love you Joshie." she says.

I called then picked up the phone and called a repair man. when he came it took him four hours to fix the window and when he finished, Evelyn walked up to me and said Joshie why didn't you call the police?" I took her hands in mine and looked at her in the eyes. "If I would have called the police they would probably relocate us."

"Oh I see." she said. I then put my hands on her cheeks "I also don't want to have you move to a new school and have to try and make new friends. besides I can take care of anybody that tries to hurt you."

Evelyn then nodded and walked up the stairs. I watched her disappear around the coner of the top of the stairs. I then knew that I would have to become a trained killer in order to keep her safe. if that is what it takes to keep her safe then I will do it. No one will ever harm her.
