Angela stares at Anthony before her. He stood there with his motorcycle helmet in one hand and a smirk on his face. He only manages to get on her nerves.
"Your earlier than usual."
"Got some business with a teach," he says.
"I don't understand how you are our top student."
"Skills. Plus I don't go buying my grades like others," he smirks.
Angela tries to keep her smile. Anthony was the top student of her grade even surpassing her. He also denied any affiliation with the title of king. For this reason, this year was the first to be known that there was an empty king position. She had believed that it would had been filled with the second student. Instead the committee decided to make him an honorary king.
Since it was better for all of them that the number one student stay being king. Their precious rules can not be bent, apparently. Instead Anthony was king with and at the same time without the title.
"Oh please all you do is ride that bike of yours or roam the halls like a zombie."
"Better than being the miss perfect image where everyone is trying to catch me slip," he says.
"Well I better get going."
"You better before your little followers get too worried," Tony says with venom slipping through his teeth.
"At least people want to be around me," she states, "everyone is afraid of you for some reason."
"Not everyone," he states.
"Well I know you wouldn't hurt a fly. Your mostly bark than bite," she says mocking.
"For someone that preaches friendliness and equality. You sure are ironically vicious," he laughs.
"Guess no one truly knows anybody anymore," she says quietly.
"I used to think I knew you," he states.
Angela can feel the knot in her stomach forming. She puts on a smile as memories of them playing as children come to mind.
"People sometimes change for the worst," she says, "it's better to keep distance."
"That stung. Really didn't think you thought of me in such a bad light," Anthony says frowning.
Honestly Angela was talking about herself but she couldn't correct the misunderstanding. It's been better for them to keep the distance. She can see the hint of sadness in his eyes as she keeps her silence.
"I'm leaving," she states looking away rapidly not wanting to look into his brown eyes no longer.
Deciding not to interrupt Mrs. Ferguson's lesson, she goes outside. Passing the tennis courts stands a huge brick building. Swiping her Id she enters taking a deep breathe of the sweet smell of flowers. It was spacious place engulfed by plants and sunlight that you almost forgot you were in school. The open roof made it possible for the natural breeze to circulate around. In the middle there is a table for people to sit.
This has been her happy place for the last three years. No matter what was going on Angela felt at peace with the smell of flowers and the sun hitting her skin. She let her bag land on the table as she walked around. Taking in the fresh air and trying to forget those distant memories Anthony had brought back.
Angela had decided to leave them in the past. She has to focus on the present. Things where getting hectic and she needs to keep focus. Nothing can distract her or things can start to fall apart. She takes a seat on a bench by the wall and looks up to the cloudy sky. Smell of rain coming from afar. She wants time to stop and let her enjoy this peace.
Angela knows it's only temporary as she has many things to take care of. As her mental list starts to get never ending she takes a deep breath. It was barely Monday and she can feel this week turning to be a long exhausting load.
Angela gets up and returns to the table and looks at her agenda. Turning her focus on school. One thing at a time. That's all she can do now. So she has to give her all on keeping herself on top and not slip up so close to her goal.
