Chapter 11

Kill all the Lovers

I couldn’t imagine what it was like to live more of my life in blood. The damage on Natalie’s body had brought me down to my knees and got me to mentally plead to the world to let her live. I was sick of seeing people exploding out in blood in front of me and dying right there. That could be me right there. That could be a person that I cared about. But, like usually, I had to swallow down the aches in my chest and wipe the fear from my expression to handle this impossible situation.

“Nat...Come on,” I muttered and swore to myself knowing that her eyes wouldn’t lift even the slightest. The chances of her survival were down to a one percent. I was in an unknown area with an assassin downstairs, plus what I think were his friends. As much as I despised the girl, I wouldn’t leave her to bleed and I also needed information on Damon.

The elevator swiped open and my heart hopped off a cliff expecting to face an army but instead, I was faced with rising stairs. I lifted Natalie using my arm over her waist and putting her arm over my shoulder. Her head bobbled onto my shoulder and I began to climb up the stairs, step by step and inhaling deeply. I didn’t know what was going on but I will soon find out after I make sure she’s okay. Something that seemed impossible wasn’t always impossible. I refuse to give up without even trying.

Up the ten steps, we faced a heavy door that required me to put Natalie down and open it, then pick her up and exit. The door had shut closed loudly behind me. It required a key and an ID card to enter the door again. It was a good thing I had no plans to coming back. We now stood in a very tight boiler room and ahead of us was another door. The closer I moved to the door with Natalie, the more noise I could pick up. It sounded like thousands of people talking in a really opened area. They had an actual army out to kill her, didn’t they?

I nibbled on my bottom lip, my forehead crumpling. There was no way I was going to open the door. We had to find another way out. But, what if it isn’t an army? Do I really want to take the chance? Just one peak won’t kill me... I swore under my breath and twist the knob and peaked with only one eye out and my jaw had instantly dropped. Vineyard mall... It was a mall that wasn’t too far from my place. What in the world was it doing here!? More importantly, why the hell is there a secret facility underneath the mall?

Quickly glancing back at Natalie I was reminded that her shirt was soaked up with her own blood and my hands were also covered in crimson red. There was no way I could go out there with her and not get noticed. Hell, they’d probably accuse me of murdering her. And if there was any chance the people below could use the mall cameras-there was no way I was going to make it out with her boldly red. That was if there were more people involved with the facility down there. I closed the door and scrambled my way beside Nat and then slapped her hard on the cheek. To my relief, her eyes would flicker in and out of consciousness and stare back at me.

“Stay here, I’ll be right back, but for now stay awake. We need to exit the mall without being noticed,” I whispered to her, “Do you understand?” She weakly nodded and moved her trembling fingers the budge over at the side of her jeans. It was definitely a gun.

“You keep it. I’ll be fine,” I assured her and then twisted the knob again and quickly closed the door behind me. Okay, I have less than five minutes to find something to cover her up-with no money what so ever. First, I need to wash this blood off... Luckily, there was a washroom right by. I ran toward it and then slipped and quickly washed off the blood on my hands and rolled up my sleeves to hide the blood that was stained on the dark blue cloth. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I was pasty white, unhealthy but compared to Natalie, I looked like was in top shape. I brushed strands of my hair back and then moved to head out and trick someone until my eyes had caught on a leather jacket with a hood hanging at the edge of the sink. There was definitely another person in the stall and they must have left it out.
