Hey guys! So here is the chapter! The next chapter may contain some suggestive material and I am curious as to how I want to approach it (either cut it or keep it). I don't want this story to turn into some nightmare. Let me know in the comments how you guys would feel about it; I love hearing from all my readers! Also this is one of those chapters that is shorter. (I'm actually going to post two because it will make more sense. Enjoy!

"White lights, flirt in the darkness. This road leads where your heart is. These signs, something we can't ignore." Red Lights by Tiesto
Chris
Penelope sat quietly beside me, her head in her hands. Ricky had gone to get her some coffee as she was about to pass out from exhaustion. The guys and Irina's roommates were back at the house, awaiting our call.
They hadn't come out to tell me she was dead....but they hadn't come out to say she was okay either.
My phone started buzzing. Lizzy for the fourth time. I swiped and stood, giving a small smile to Penelope. "Hello?" I rasped. "Chris! Where are you!? Why didn't you call me!?"
I cringed at the shrillness of her voice. "I-Irina is sick. She's in the hospital." I said, omiting most details. "And you couldn't call me back why?" "Jesus Lizzy, she almost died!"
A nurse looked up from her computer and gave me a warning look. I shook my head. "Look Lizzy, I have to go. I'll call you when I can."
I sighed and shoved my phone into my pocket as Ricky appeared with three teetering cups of coffee.
I gave a small smile of gratitude and took the cup. It was about 3 AM and it was raining like crazy outside.
"Why did she do this?" Penelope asked guiltily as she took the cup. "Well no one really knows what's going through a person's head when they get that far." Ricky soothed quietly. I shook my head.
"Wait, where is Violet? Wasn't she supposed to be there?" Penelope looked up at me, Ricky and her sharing an expression.
"I swear to God when I get my hands on that bitch." Penelope muttered.
I glanced at Ricky: we had never heard her utter a mean word to anyone.
I thought about Irina again. She was always so strong: what could've made her think that this world was better without her. I wanted to hold her, tell her all the amazing things I loved about her: like her laugh or the way she used to rub my head. No, I will not fall for this. She hates you Chris, you just did what any good person would do.
I was about to ask Penelope something when a voice interrupted me. "Irina Davenshire?" Penelope and I jumped up at the same time.
"Family?" "I'm her cousin." Penelope said pushing her hair from her face. "Well we have pumped her stomach and she's resting now. Since there is no insurance on file, we cannot keep her past tonight. I suggest you get some counseling." Penelope nodded.
"Can we see her?" "Only two visitors at a time." We both met Ricky's eyes. He nodded and sat down. I followed Penelope as she navigated the hospital. The last time I was in a place like this, I left her. Penelope opened a door and we entered a dimly lit room.
"Irina?" Her voice was soft as she walked over to Irina's bedside. Her body was lifeless apart from the small breaths she was taking. Penelope wiped her cheeks and then sat by Irina.
"Kid, what am I going to do with you?" She sighed and looked at me. "I'm gonna call the others. Will you stay here?" I reluctantly nodded. She stepped out and we were left in silence. I took her place on the bed and studied Irina. I scrubbed a hand down my face and then laced my fingers in with hers mindful of the pulse monitor.
"You are fucking crazy." I muttered.
Irina
"I am not." I croaked, opening my eyes. "How long have you been awake?" "Awhile...I feel like death." "Well that's what happens when you try to kill yourself." he said coyly. I huffed and turned away from him.
"Look I'm sorry." He rubbed my palm and I wiggled away. "Why won't you let me touch you?" "Because you're an asshole." "How!? I saved your life!" "You saved me from you." I said, enunciating each word. He dropped his eyes and shook his head.
"I'm so sorry. I just couldn't deal with what I had done." I glanced over at him before averting my eyes to the white wall.
"I came as quickly as I could when I heard about Will." he said softly. "Well it doesn't matter. He knows where I live I wouldn't be surprised if he came in right now and took me." I said bitterly, turning away from him.
"I'm not gonna let that happen." he said forcefully. I flinched at his words.
"Look this has got to stop. All you're doing is leading me along." "Leading you along!? You're the one who kissed me both those nights."
"I kissed you on the forehead, that's hardly an invitation." "Those are the best kisses...the one's I used to give you." he added quietly.
"I think I should leave the country for a while." I said, sitting up. "What? That's ridiculous! The best place you can be is here where you are safe." he said, pushing me down into the bed.
"I'm serious. Just until Will is caught. I could go to Italy. Maybe meet some opera singers...canoodle with some models." I added, raising my eyebrows at him.
"Alright now you're just being cruel." he said, smiling gently. A silence fell between us.
"You're safe here, I promise." he said, taking my hand.
"Now get some rest, I'll be right here." He rested into one of the two chairs in the room and watched me.
I sighed and rested back against the pillow, swirly dreams of cliff jumping and opera floating in my head.
