"If you put on any more sunscreen, you'll be a vampire." I said sourly as I glared at Chris. He was standing outside of his car, lathering himself with sunscreen. His tattoos were almost covered, his skin a ghostly white.

"I have to maintain my beautiful complexion." he said, tipping his sunglasses at me. I pushed my lips together. "Uh huh that's beautiful alright. And what's with the waterbugs? You a diva?" I said as he pulled his black tank top over his head. He threw me a warning look and replaced his glasses on his face. I slipped on my flip flops, dropping my lace maxi skirt. I shut the car door and rounded it to his side.

"Here we go." We walked across the street and started down the boardwalk. People slapped a volleyball over nets and kids raced past us on roller skates. Waves crashed against the shore as kids screamed happily on the playground at the Holiday Inn.

"So how have you been?" he asked as we passed into a patch of sun. "You mean since I last saw you?" He nodded. "Well I guess." "I thought about you...a lot. I just didn't know what to do." he said as I stopped to look out at the water. I pulled my light sweater closer to me as he stood beside me.

"I never really thought about you." I lied, remembering last night. I placed my hands on the cool railing and sighed. "Irina, you forget that I can read you like a book." he said, leaning against the railing.

A scream rang out and Chris jumped. I looked over to see his tank top covered in water. The culprits? A couple of eight year olds holding water guns. Chris's face turned dark. I laughed, harder and happier than I ever had before. As soon as he met my eyes, his dark look faded and he just shrugged it off.

"Wow, got pranked by kids." I said, calming myself. He nodded vigorously. "You think that's funny? Don't ya?" I started to laugh again. "Hilarious." I said, stretching out the word. He seemed as though he remembered it from that night on the beach and let a small smile slip.

"Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I am here for you." he said, pulling off his tank top. It was hard not to ogle his slender frame, covered in those beautiful tattoos. He rung out the shirt and shoved it into his shorts (another thing I had never seen him in).

We continued on, although I insisted we walk on the beach to avoid the stares. I pulled off my shoes and Chris took them from me. He shoved them into the deep pockets of his shorts and refused to give them back.

"So are you guys going on tour anytime soon?" I asked as nonchalantly as possible. "Uh we hope to this winter. You should come with us, if you find the time of course." I nodded and fisted the bottom of the sweater in my hand. It was really hot out. Chris noticed my uncomfortableness.

"Why don't you take your sweater off?" he suggested, stopping. I glanced at him and then rolled up my sleeve just the tinniest bit. He shrugged.

"So? I'm out here with tattoos and drawn on eyebrows and no one says anything to me." he said. Ocean water rushed over my feet as I glanced at the sweater.

"Come on, fuck em." he said. I took a deep breath and slowly shimmied off the sweater.

I had a crop top on underneath that I had borrowed from Penelope. He gently took the sweater as I let the sun warm my arms. I stood there for a moment before something tugged on my skirt. I looked down to see a little girl, no more than three years old. She had on a bright pink bathing suit.
