"Your mother is here." Archie stated in a hard voice from the doorway and mum and I both looked up at him from the floor. We were watching Donny take his nap.
Mum pulled a sour face at his news before reluctantly standing and releasing a hard breath. I bit my lip in concern seeing the emotional turmoil mum has to endure once again to face her mother -my absentee grandmother.
"I didn't think you invited her?" I questioned mum in confusion from the floor and she shook her head in agreement. Her frown lines displayed the level of stress she's going through. My heart ached for her.
"She's going to bring up tradition." Mum groaned out in exasperation suddenly and let her head fall back tiredly while I frowned deeply in confusion. Bit by bit these things come up and I learn a little more about mum's past. It still stung knowing she hid such a large part of her -of us- away from me all these years.
"What do you mean?" I asked mum gently when she continued glaring up at the ceiling and she slowly looked down at me and glanced at Donny's sleeping form.
"My mother hates it when she doesn't get her way. Since we basically told her to shove her 'family bonding', she's seeking another way into our lives." Mum explained to me in irritation and my eyebrows shot up in surprise before I shook my head slowly.
"How?" I asked mum cautiously as I caressed Donny's cheek lovingly and mum took a deep, slow, calming breath before kneeing in front of me.
"In the Witch Covens, there's a tradition that we carry out where any born into a line are to go through a ceremony to be accepted in the Covens -to be accepted as a Sister." Mum began to explain to me with an uneasy expression on her face and my eyebrows drew together in concern. "My mother is going to initiate you." Mum dropped on me sighing heavily and slouching in defeat while I stiffened in shock before anger coursed through me.
"No." I snapped harshly out of myself and mum's head snapped up in surprise and her eyes widened at me. "She can't force me to do this 'tradition'. You brought me up without magic and I have never needed or accessed it before. She can't make me." I told mum determinedly lifting my chin stubbornly and mum smiled faintly at me before sighing heavily and shaking her head slowly.
"Piper, with a Coven you can enhance your powers and learn to control-"
"I have never had 'powers', mum. Not even an inkling. And I don't want to discover if I do. I'm happy with the life I have; I don't want to change who I am and what I can do just to please a woman who thinks she can rule my life without knowing me." I told mum seriously feeling something bloom inside of me at my words and mum blinked in surprise before giving me a wide grin in happiness.
"I raised you well; you're becoming a true Queen." Mum whispered in pride staring at me happily and I grinned brightly at her. Now I understood the feeling that bloomed in me; it was the power of being a Lycan Queen. "But you will need to tell my mother yourself." Mum told me smugly seeing the understanding in my expression and I pouted at her in response. She just laughed at me.
"Fine!" I grunted in exasperation throwing my hands in the air and mum laughed loudly before tackling me. I bellowed out laughter and weakly fought off her attack while she tickled me relentlessly.
By the time mum got up to let me breathe again, Donny was wide awake and looking over at me. I grinned widely crawling my way back to him and blew on his cheeks so he laughed loudly slapping my face with his tiny hands. I then lifted him up in my arms and cradled him close before following my grinning mum outside to meet her mother properly. And without the Lycans.
