I wake up with a gasp and look around. I'm laying diagonally on my bed with a notepad and pen sitting in front of me, two pages filled with my writing. I notice I'm covered with a blanket that I don't remember covering myself with. I yawn and remove the blanket and look at the clock. I see it is midnight and I go out of my room to get a glass of water. I make my way downstairs but stop when I hear Sam on the phone with someone. "I'm not sure what it is. Why do you even care?" I lean against the wall. "She hasn't told me what it is and I really don't care what Jolene's mission is." I put my hand over my mouth to stop any noise from coming out. "Because I don't like the fact that she brings Colton over here. Let alone two of his friends." I hear his voice start getting more and more angry. "Yeah I know I should act like a husband but I really don't care if she finds out or not." I stop leaning against the wall and start walking down the stairs again. "I miss you too. No, she doesn't know anything. Yeah I'll see you tomorrow after work." He watches me as I walk into the kitchen and grab a glass from the cupboard. "Hey. Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your phone call." I yawn as I fill the glass with tap water. I lean against the counter and face him. "It's fine. I was going to end it anyway."
"So you'll be home late tomorrow?" I ask and notice him shift uncomfortably. "Yeah, I need to go over some plans with a customer."
"Well, why don't they just come over here then? I'm going to be at headquarters tomorrow going over information since doing it here is out of the question now." I sigh and look out the window above the sink. "Why would they come over here instead?"
"I don't know. I just thought you might be more comfortable here instead of at some stranger's house. Sorry for trying to help." I snap as I roughly set my glass in the sink and go upstairs. "Wait, J. I'm sorry. I'm just stressed is all. I don't mean to be an a$$."
"It's whatever. It was a dumb idea. I'm going back to bed." I start walking again and slam my door shut. "If he cares he'll knock on the door and try to make it right." I say quietly to myself and a few seconds later I hear his door close. I laugh softly before changing into pajama shorts and a t shirt and hiding under my covers. I wake up a few hours later to the sound of my phone going off. I don't open my eyes as I answer it. "Hello?"
"Jo? You sound like you're still asleep."
"I am. What do you need Colton?" I ignore his laughter and sink back under the covers with the phone pressed against my ear. "You might want to get in here. Sam is here wondering where you are and making a huge fuss about it."
"Why would he be doing that? I'm at home." I yawn and don't move to get ready. "He seems to be drunk." I hear Sam in the background yelling at him asking who he is talking to and I hear Colton say my name before the phone gets dropped. I sit up straight in bed and call Colton's name out a few times. I end the call and quickly run down to my car and speed all the way to headquarters. I don't bother to change since whenever Sam is drunk he tends to put people in the morgue or hospital, which is why he was in River Run. I doubt he will be able to do that since Colton is a good soldier and my dad is there but I'm still worried about them both. I get out of my car and jog to the building hearing my sandals hit the floor. When I walk through the doors I see all hell breaking loose inside. There are papers everywhere on the floor and soldiers fighting and civilians fighting. I see my dad is trapped inside a glass enclosed conference room, that has bullet proof glass. I start to make my way over to him when he motions for me to go into the conference room across the lobby that doesn't have any windows. I nod and jog over to the other room and pull open the door. I see Sam and Colton fighting along with Jared and Tyler. "What is going on in here?" I yell and the fighting stops in the room. They all look at me and I glare at all four of them. "Well? Come on. Don't be shy. Let me hear the great reason you people have for fighting." They all look at each other before Sam takes a few steps towards me. "Okay, I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to get mad until I tell you the whole thing. Alright?"
"Yeah, sure. Just hurry it along. I have to get the people in the lobby to stop fighting as well. And get my dad out of the locked conference room." My voice gets louder and louder as I keep talking and once I get done, Jared and Tyler leave the room saying they will get my dad and stop the fighting. "Well? I'm listening Sam. Are you finally going to tell me about the girl you're cheating on me with?"
