I stare at the boy, holding onto the reigns for dear life, hoping he will open the gate.
"Please." I whisper, almost smelling the decay from the zombies.
He looking directly into my eyes, making my heart skip a beat, then, the gate opens and I run inside, dragging Spirit it behind me.
He closes the gate again and walks over, seeing me panting on the ground.
The monsters growls and hiss in anger, making me smirk slightly.
Obviously Spirit doesn't like the looks of this guy, so he decides to stamp him away.
I feel like I can't breathe for a second, then my breath comes back into my lungs and I wrap my hands around Spirit's neck.
He lifts me to my feet and I use him to stay standing.
"Thank you." I say, breathing heavily.
He comes over, looking almost afraid of Spirit.
"No problem. I'm Tucker." He says, extending his hand to me.
I put out my hand, shaking it.
"Petra." I respond, making him smile lightly.
He scratches the back of his head, ruffling his messy black hair.
"Sorry if I woke you up." I say, looking down.
He chuckles, scoffing.
"Your lucky you didn't wake anyone else. This town isn't very welcoming to outsiders." He says in the nicest way possible.
Finally, my breath returns and I walk over to him.
"I should probably leave by morning then." I say, both of us staring at the ground.
He pats me on the shoulder.
"I could try to get them to give you a chance." He says hopefully.
Something about this place looks off, and I figure it out.
The sky, its fake, yet the moon moves slowly.
"Uh, is your sky fake?" I ask simply, trying my best not to be rude.
We still stand by the gate, hearing the growls of the monsters as they go off the bridge.
He laughs.
"That's hilarious. Of course its not fake." He says, beginning to walk down the stone road.
I follow, leading Spirit behind me.
"Okay..... Um, is there a place I can keep Spirit?" I ask, not really caring where I sleep.
He simply nods as we continues our way down the street.
The very first turn off is the one he takes, and I can't help but stare at everything.
The houses look like they were made for the richest people alive, and in the middle of the town sat a big park, that looked like a perfect place for kids to play in.
"So, this is the barn. No one uses it anymore, Spirit can stay here." He says, opening the door for me.
I thank him quietly and walk inside.
What he said was true.
No one uses this at all.
Every corner has cobwebs in it, and the hay looks like it hasn't been moved since the sickness.
"Now, I'm not sure where you will sleep, basically every house is taken, and you would be noticed if we gave you an empty one...." He trails off as I let Spirit roam around.
The hay reminds me of the first town I stayed in where a farmer was nice enough to let me sleep on his hay.
"I'll just stay here for now." I say with a shrug, pulling the blanket from Spirit's saddle bag and laying it on top of the hay bale.
He opens his mouth to argue but I shoot him a glare that cannot be argued with.
"Fine. I'll come by in the morning and we will head over to the town council." He huffs, leaving the barn.
I sigh, laying down, my golden hair getting I'm my eyes.
The sound of multiple horses is the last thing I hear, before my eyes close, and I'm fast asleep.
