A/n- sorry this chapter is a little late! I left my notebook with the idea in it at home and I have been so busy this weekend that I haven't been back home. Hope this makes up for it
Between picking up shifts at Topanga's for extra money and then packing for both Texas and to move to Riley and I's dorm upon my return the time passed quickly. Before I knew it the month of June was over and I was on my flight to Texas. I got there and Lucas and Riley were waiting for me at the airport. I gave Riley a hug "how has Texas been?"I questioned her. "beyond words" "really?" I asked unconvinced she laughed and I turned to Lucas he tipped his cowboy hat "welcome to Texas ma'am." "Thanks" I smiled at him. "There is an hour before Riley has to board. Want to grab some food?" Lucas asked Riley and I nodded in agreement. We all caught up over eating. Riley had done a ton of sight seeing, from what I could tell Lucas hadn't really left the house. Riley confirmed my suspicions by telling me this when he had gotten up to throw away his trash. She had told me he hadn't talked much, and seemed out of it. I could tell it had been worrying her. But we had to drop the subject as he came back and sat back down. Soon enough we bid Riley goodbye and got in his car to head home. "Hey" I could tell this was just his way of grabbing my attention to start a conversation not just a greeting so I waited for him to continue. "My dad" there was a slight pause before he went on "he has good days and bad days. He doesn't always seem so sick. I mean sometimes it easy to forget that he is, but today is a bad day." I looked over at him and was shocked. His tone suggested he had reached the end of the subject, his hands gripped the steering wheels like vices, and the look in his eyes was one I was only barely acquainted with; it was one that belonged to Texas Lucas. It was easy to see in that moment why Riley had been so troubled. I chose to ignore his demeanor as I spoke "that's what you're worried about? I promise illness doesn't scare me." I looked out the window as I finished my thought "I wouldn't have come if it did. That would just make it worse for you" he seemed surprised at my words but said nothing as we pulled in the driveway
