Chapter Five: Damn straight I'm acquired-
"Lets just say I'm a changed woman and leave it at that, okay Liss?" I snapped, urging my legs to move faster as we crossed the school's football field.
I could hear Melissa giggling a little further behind me as she tried to compose herself, "Come on, Shay. Why won't you just tell me? Can't of been that bad. Or was it good?"
My eyes widened as a flashback of Mark jiggling about in the boy's locker room, squishing and squelching his stomach into inhuman contortions took over. I skidded to a halt, spinning on my heels to face Melissa directly. I could feel my left eye twitching as I glared at her.
"Good?" I questioned incredulously, in a huff of air. "You thought- are you kidding me!"
A shudder sent my body quivering to the bones as I continued to try and rid my mind of the horrific imagery that was now branded into my memory. For life. Whenever I closed my eyes, there he was. Whenever I tried to think about something else, he was still there. Dancing and...bouncing.
"Well," Melissa retorted as she leaned on her left leg with her arms crossed defiantly over her chest, "how am I supposed to know if you wont tell me, huh?"
Bursting through her personal bubble my glare strengthened as my voice fell into a whisper, "The day I tell you what happened back there...is the day you run butt naked around this school!"
There was a moment of silence between the both of us. Students carried on rushing off of the field to head of to their next class. Dinner break was over and it was now time to crack on with the second half of the day's education, save for myself and Melissa of course. Rebels without limits, some may say.
After a few more seconds I realised that Liss was actually thinking about stripping down to her birthday suit and running around the school's grounds. And for a moment I thought she was going to but thankfully something changed her mind. Probably worried that for the rest of her life whenever she saw one of her old school friends she'd be referred to as steaker! Streaker! Just how desperate was she to hear about my mishap in the boy's changing rooms?
"Can we leave it at that now?" I asked her impatiently, as I glanced around and focused upon the front gates about a hundred meters away. The teachers who kept guard during lunchtime were just leaving, chatting amongst themselves as the last of the students ran for class. "Come on."
I reached blindly behind me and grabbed at Liss's arm, and began to drag her along with me as I crossed the rest of field over to the gates. And right on cue, there was Darren. Diving out from behind one of trees before looking from left to right. His eyes casually scanning over the both of us, but apparently we blended in with the scenery and weren't seen as a threat.
With the coast clear he left the school's grounds, making his way up the sidewalk and towards the center of town. Picking up speed I could feel Melissa resisting and begin to slow me down.
"Shay! What are you doing?" She hissed at me as she tried to pry her grip free of my hand.
"Following Darren, remember?" I said.
"Out of the school?"
"Well, duh." I mentally face-palmed Melissa. "That is where he's going, isn't it?"
"But we're not allowed!" Liss gasped as she successfully escaped from my fingers. I paused yet again and turned to face her, irritation written clearly across my face. If she kept doing this we'd loose him and we'd be skipping class for nothing. Unless Melissa made us walk in late. Either way ended in spending quality time with the teachers in detention.
