Chapter Twenty-Four:  If I'm going to walk on the moon, I'm doing it in style

“Non sequiter.” Adam said, he was sat opposite me on the floor. “Go on, try saying it. Non sequiter.”

“Non sequiter...” I copied him, trying to ignore the sharp pulling pains that tore at my scalp as Melissa was pinning the red wig onto my head.

He shook his head hopelessly. “No, not so fast. Say it slowly and really pronounce it. Non sequiter.”

Nonn-see-quit-errr.” At my poor attempt the three of us burst out into laughter. “I sound French!”

“French is good, isnt it?” Liss asked behind me, and Adam got up from rolling around on the carpet.

“Is it?” I asked Adam since he seemed to be the expert in this sort of thing, which was why I had invited him round to Melissa's house to help me prepare for Roxy's date with Ki. I needed to sound more intelligent, smarter, since he had called me stupid not so long back. I had to impress him, get him to start liking me before I could get a real gauge on how he treated girls he was interesting in.

Adam shrugged. “I guess. It means you've studied another language which means you're smart, but Shay-Shay you can't speak a word of French.”

“So? How's he going to know? I'll just make crap up. He doesn't speak French, does he?”

“I believe he knows German.” Melissa threw in, now straightening the front sides of the wig to frame my face.

“What does non see-whatever the word is, mean anyway?”

Adam crossed his legs Indian-style and sat up straighter and said, “It means: something that does not logically follow.”

“And how exactly am I supposed to use that in conversation with Ki?”

“Improvise. Just throw it in there. Just that fact that you know the word exists will give you brownie points, even if you can't pronounce it.” I glared across at him and he stifled his laughter this time. Brushing back strands of his hair that fell beautifully down into his eyes, Adam smiled at me, and I felt Melissa tug backwards on the wig as if she had just been knocked unconscious at the sight of Adam's girl-swooning action.

I bit my lip knowingly. “You alright back there, Liss?”

    “Yeah,” she squeaked. “I'm fine.”

“You almost done yet?” I asked her, checking the time on my mobile. “I should have left five minutes ago.”

“Yeah I'm done.” She announced, removing her hands from me and getting to her feet. Adam was the next one up and he graciously helped me stand since I already had another pair of Melissa's heels on. They weren't so bad any more, I was getting the hang of them, although I only stuck to the smallest heels she had.

Catching my balance, I rearranged my top. It was a long black shirt that was decorated with sequins and diamantes that pulled in just above my hips where a belt rested. I felt more comfortable in this outfit since the top was long enough to cover my backside which stuck out like a elephant's rear in such tight jeans.

“Do you know where he's taking you?” Adam asked me slyly.

“Nope. He just said to meet him on West Chapel Lane, opposite the big cinema place.” It was a good job that I didn't know exactly where I was going because Adam would have pressured it out of me, and knowing him and Liss, they would have stalked me to see for themselves how the date turned out. I'd been a bad influence on the both of them as we grew up, that was for sure.
