Chapter Thirty: Mad Scientists Don't Sleep

Ki and I left the party in search of peace and quiet. We'd suffered as much clinking of glasses and the stringed harmony of violins as possible, and Ki was just as desperate to escape it all as I was. After asking his mother's permission first, of course

He'd greeted a few well known guests with his parents while I stood on the sidelines and watched, and took photographs for all the local newspapers. He'd done his part, and now he was allowed some free time away.

Ki walked me through his house, which felt more like a museum, talking me through all the different portraits of his famous ancestors who'd made historic breakthroughs in the science and history world.

When we went upstairs Ki led me into a room.

“And this is where I sleep.” He said, and I quickly hurried inside before he could shut the door in my face and stop me. This was the most excited I'd been all night. I now got to see just where the infamous, bomb-constructing Ki Yong slept and spent his spare time. Let me tell you, it was not what I was expecting.

I stood in the middle of the room and turned in a circle taking everything in. It was a large room, about three times the size of my own, and I could see he had his own bathroom to himself. What I would give to have one of those, instead of having to race to the toilet first just so I could take a wee before anyone else.

It was spacious, and the colours of the walls were a very pale blue which gave me a very cold feeling. Nothing was out of place, all his books and pens and computer stuff on his desk had it's own designated place. His bed was made tidy and tucked into the sides. The floor was spotless, not a coffee stain in sight, and on the right against the far wall was a floor-to-ceiling bookcase filled with wikipedia’s and fact files.

I slowly moved over to his bed, my heels clicking very loudly against his laminate flooring. I almost didn't dare sit down in fear of leaving crease marks on his covers, but I'm sure he'll just call one of his many servants to come and fix it for him.

“This is not what I was expecting.” I said as I sat down, and Ki closed the door behind him before walking over to his bedroom window. It was late afternoon and sun's light was dimming.

“What were you expecting?” He asked me, gazing out of the window, both his hands tucked into his trouser pockets. The shinning light reflected off his glossy, dark hair.

“I don't know,” I giggled. “A mad scientist lab, with jars of fingers and eyeballs. Blood stains on the walls and bubbling pots of acid.”

Ki no longer seemed to find my wild imagination strange and creepy any more, in fact he seemed to have embraced it. He turned from the window and looked over at me, all sense of worry from before, earlier today vanished. “That doesn't sound like a bedroom. Where would I sleep?”

    “Mad scientists don't sleep.”

We both settled into a comfortable laughter. Then I saw something flash across his face. He walked over to the bed and looked down at me.

    “Lay back.” He said.

“Woah, hold your horses, Ki.” I exclaimed, my face morphing into complete shock. “If that's why you brought me into your bedroom you've got another thing coming.”
