Chapter Thirty-Three: To The Gorgeous Shayenne Who Keeps Us All Insane!
It's been a little over a week since Melissa chose who's most deserving of being crowned the Perfect Boyfriend. I am happy to announce that I have had no dates within that week, and I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I missed the whirlwind of stress that came with this mission.
I found that I had a lot of free time during this week and most of it, admittedly, was spent moping around, baking brownies, eating said brownies and overall just being a couch potato. Put it this way, if I got paid for being lazy I'd be a freaking millionaire right now, paying someone else to make brownies for me.
I was currently sat on my bed, gazing vaguely about my room. Yesterday, which was a Thursday, school had finished for the summer, and today was Prom. Today my mission would be over, if everything went to plan, I would come clean with the truth to everyone (hopefully none of them will hate me too much for playing them!), and Melissa would walk away from the school dance with a beaming smile and her perfect boyfriend on her arm. What could go wrong with that?
I heard my phone buzz, luring me back into reality. I read the text from Liss telling me to hurry my ass up, and I hauled myself up onto my feet. I scooped up my bag and went about my room gathering the provisions; all three wigs, make-up, hair straighteners, my bowler hat and last but not least the can of pepper spray. Naomi was going to see Darren today, so I will most likely need that to threaten him with.
Racing down the stairs, I made my way into the kitchen to find both my mother and father fixing themselves some breakfast. Mmm, don't you just love the smell of bacon in the morning?
“You're looking peppy this morning.” Dad observed, poking a fork into the pan of sizzling meat. Who was he trying to kid? I looked and sounded miserable, then I took note of his sarcasm. My mother continued to keep her back to me and refused to acknowledge my presence. I sat down at the table.
“School's out for the summer and today's Prom, I'm supposed to look peppy.” I grumbled, fighting the image of me wearing a dress. I was on strict orders by both Liss and Adam that I was not allowed to wear tights or leggings underneath. I shuddered at the thought.
“You got a date?” He slyly asked me.
“Yeah Dad, I got three.” He laughed at my answer, and I could only assume he thought I was joking, because if he really believed that I had three dates he'd march me straight back upstairs and lock me in my room until I was thirty. “I'm going with Liss, she's flying solo. Gonna go round to hers in a minute to get ready.”
“I thought she had a boyfriend.”
“She did, and hopefully she'll have a new one by tonight.”
Dad shook his head and mumbled, “Teenagers.”
Before he could say any more the phone rang and he dashed off to go answer it, but not before giving me a kiss on the head and saying, “Have fun at Prom, make sure you take your pepper spray with you.”
“It doesn't go anywhere without me!”
With Dad out of the room, the air in the kitchen turned tense within a flash. I glanced nervously over at my mum who'd now taken over cooking the bacon and sausages. I'm sorry, two words that could apparently make everything better, so Ki said, but I just couldn't seem to find the courage to actually say them to her. What if she laughed at me, or just ignored me?
