Tris's Pov
The moment I wake I feel a pounding headache, constantly causing me to close my eyes. There's no way I'd be able to concentrate at all in school. Savoring a couple more minutes in bed, I get up to tell Caleb I'm not feeling well. On my way down the stairs, I have to use the wall for support, stopping every couple seconds. When Caleb notices me, he immediately walks over to help.
While placing a hand on my forehead he says, "Woah Tris you're burning up.
There's no way you're going to school today.""I know. I was going to let you know I had a bad headache but I guess that wasn't a good idea."
"I'll tell mom to call the school and tell them you're sick. I'm bringing you back to bed because you need to rest," Caleb says worryingly. "Call me if you need anything, but don't get out of bed."
My head hurts so bad that I could almost faint, but I hold up long enough to get into bed and knock out.
When I wake up next it's dark out, meaning I've slept through a whole school day. I so desperately wish I was still sleeping because I wake up feeling even worse-- a headache that's beginning to feel like a migraine, and all my limbs feel too weak to get up. A couple minutes later Caleb walks in with a bowl of food and I silently thank him. He helps me up into a sitting position, and places the bowl onto my lap, making sure it doesn't spill.
"How are you feeling?" Caleb asks.
"My head really hurts, my nose is running, and I'm really tired."
"You should go back to sleep after you finish eating. Focus on schoolwork later, I know you're probably thinking about that."
"Yeah, yeah, I know."
The moment I finished my food my eyes begin to close themselves again, and right before I'm about to fall asleep, the door creaks open. I don't bother moving from my position because 1) it hurts to move and 2) it's probably Caleb just checking up on me again. When the presence of the person is unwavering, instead of turning around, I say a simple "Hey."
"You look miserable."
By the voice that speaks it isn't hard to distinguish who it is.
"Thanks for the compliment, Tobias. Why are you here anyway?" I grumble.
"You weren't at school today and I wanted to know make sure you were okay," Tobias says as if it's obvious.
"You didn't have to come to my house, I have a phone you can call you know."
"I did, but you didn't answer."
My hand slowly reaches across my nightstand to pick up my phone, and the bright light of the screen immediately causes my eyes to squint. Five missed calls from Tobias shows up in my call log, and I mutter a sorry. Turning around to face him, I tell him that I probably won't be in school tomorrow either. After a couple minutes of small talk, he leaves and bids me goodbye.
The next morning I'm feeling slightly better, but not well enough to go to school. I've barely left my bed in the last twenty four hours, and still feel extremely tired. Caleb walks in a few moments later with food, and to tell me that he's going out with Cara. Before going back to sleep, I check my phone to make sure I haven't missed any text or calls, and knock out for several more hours.
When I wake up it's about two in the afternoon, and I grab my bookbag to catch up on whatever I missed in school. Losing track of time, my door opens and in walks Tobias.
"What are you doing here? You know I wasn't going to be in school so there's no point in checking up on me."
"C'mon Christmas Eve is tomorrow and you're gonna be spending it sick. Might as well try to cheer you up with food."
"What kind of food?" I reply, with a raised eyebrow.
"Sushi because it's your favorite."
I small smile grows onto my face, and I reach over to grab the small bag laying in Tobias's hands.
"You're the best," I say as I get up to go downstairs.
Apparently that was a bad idea because I immediately have to sit down due to my head spinning incredibly fast.
"I'm okay," I say before Tobias has time to say or do anything.
Getting up slowly this time, we both make our way downstairs sharing the food he bought while casually talking about various topics.
