Chapter Three

Secrets

I couldn't think straight seeing her smiling face, feeling the happiness and relief raidiating from her. She actually cared about me! She actually wanted to see me happy! No normal teenager would ever like to see me-a too smart, crazy haired, freak!-happy.

"Midnight." Melony whispered. "Thank you for waking up. These last few days were nearly unbearable." Few days? How long had I been out? "You kept setting off false alarms. You'd shiver, shudder, and make sounds every now and then, but other than that, you were dead still. They wanted to shock you awake, but I knew better. I knew that if they did that it would kill you because your heart was already beating fast." Her words grew louder, and soon she spoke these so fast, I could barely understand. "It's been killing me! I felt horrible! Knowing you could die! Nearly everybody in town is down there, Midnight!" Oh, great! Now I've gone viral! "I don't want people to hurt you, Midnight! I KNOW PEOPLE ALREADY HAVE!" Although she didn't scream the words, it felt as if she has. How could she know? Only Trevor knows. Zeke knows. But how could she know?!

"How do you know?" I blurted without thinking. She went dead silent. Her eyes fell, and she looked like she was about to confess to murder.

"Well..." she said gravely. "Please don't get freaked out by this."

"I am a freak. What could possibly freak me out?" I replied, sourly. I  didn't mean it. It just happened.

"Well, I could....sort of...see you....being totured. I have been able to see you for a few years now. Ever since I was six." See me?

"Hold up! You  saw me?" I replied.

"Yeah. I can....sort of...see into the future. It sometimes happens in my sleep. Sometimes during the day. But you were so different from my usual visions. You kept coming back. And, I could feel most of the things they were doing to you." She was unsteady, waiting for my reaction. I put on a vacant expression, my poker face for deep thinking. Then I finally smiled. I wasn't the only one with a life changing secret.

She seemed unsteady, and wary. I smiled wider. Her expression became confused. I grabbed her into a hug. Someone in the world could finally understand me! I've always badly wanted to share my whole, secret world with someone since Zeke and I were seperated. Now I badly wanted it to be her.

She let go off me steadily. I smiled at her, making sure my eyes were full of curiosity, and want. She relaxed.

"Well....." I said steadily. She finally smiled. I felt like bouncing off the walls. But instead, I just shivered with eagerness. "I...can sort of....hear things....telling me when-"

"People are going to die." She laughed, finishing my sentence. I gawked, then remembered she could probably see that happening. "Come on. The whole school's waiting outside." I groaned. "I know you like to alienate yourself from society, Midnight. But we have to tell them your okay. They started a whole boycot over you." I groaned again, but went outside to face society, in a paper dress.

After leaving the hospital, I spent a few hours with Melony, telling her more secrets she already knew. She was good at pretending to be suprised.

I found out some new things about her. She invented this machine that projects people's thoughts, so when we were alone in the hospital, she saw the memory off Zeke, and I. She told me she turned it off when we started taking off our clothes. Her cheeks turned red after that. I laughed.

She also told me her dad was the doctor my mom is currently on her fourth date with. They seem to be getting pretty serious. We might be expecting a marrige soon. We both oooo'd at that thought. After that time seemed to have gotten away from us, and she said, "It's midnight, Midnight!" We both giggled, and she left.

After that, I went to bed. I tried to go to sleep, but failed. Then Zeke's words popped into my mind again. I love you, Midnight. I think I would really go crazy without you.

It was strange, hearing Zeke now, after so many years. I thought back to the times he spent with me in the aslyum, keeping me happy, making sure I was okay, and creating beautiful memories to keep, like my first kiss, my first love, and losing my virtue. Thank god it was Zeke! If Trevor took it... I couldn't even bare to think of how scarred I would be.

Then I heard a knock on my window. The frenzy of dark hair looked irregular with his face, but he still still smiled at me. At my window, was the crazier, obbessed version of Zeke.

Trevor smiled a wicked grin at me in contentment.
