Chapter Seven

Planning Our Escape

After the intimidating meeting with Trevor and Zeke, Melony and I had taken refuge in her home. Knowing Trevor was after her was tipping me off the scale of the keep-Trevor-away-from-Melony-at-all-times plan. I hate it when he cheats like this.

"Whatever you're thinking about, do not do it!" It was Melony who broke me out of her deep thinking.

"What am I thinking about?" I asked in a concerned tone.

"If I tell you, it will only back up your decision."

"Tell me, Melly!" It was a new nickname I thought up for her two days ago.

"No!"

"Stop being so-."

"Alright; you were thinking that if Trevor kept keeping tabs on you like he does, he would always know how to find me. In the vision, you left for my safety. We had an argument, and ended our friendship. I don't want that to happen! And besides, he's listening." Her voice was at a whisper, and I understood what she meant. He would be able to find her if he kept tabs on me like he does.

"So why not fake it?" I suggested. She looked puzzled, but smiled in agreement. A moment later she erased her smile, and replaced it with a sad look.

"Melony, I can't stay with you." I said in a fake sad tone. It worked. I heard a rustle in the bushes near by, probably Trevor swinging his arms in joy. "You know how he is. If he keeps tabs on me like he does, he'll be able to find you in a heartbeat. I have to do this."

"Midnight, please," Her voice was broken, or at least that's how it looked.

"It's for your safety. I have to protect you!" I practically shouted. Melony flinched, and I formed tears at the edges of my eyes as I felt Trevor's intense gaze on my back. "This isn't easy for me either! You know how much I love you! I just don't want you to get hurt! Do you know what he does to girls like us? He, he, he-." I broke off, afraid I might reveal too much she already knows. "I have to do this." I whispered.

"If you were my friend, you wouldn't do this." I froze instinctively. Tears-probably fake-were spilling from her eyes, but she stayed perfectly still.

"Well I guess I'm not your friend anymore." She gasped, and I smiled as I heard a thump. I nodded to her, and whispered, "Text you later?" She nodded, and I smiled.

I walked out of the room, and left her feeling Trevor's gaze on me the entire way home.

My plan is in action.
