Epilogue
“Are you sure you’re ready for this?” Melony whispered as she got dressed in our new school uniform.
“Totally,” I replied confidently. I was really excited about starting that new school today. In case you forgot, I won that public school art competition two months ago, and the first prize was two thousand dollars in spending money for me, forty thousand dollars for my school, and a scholarship to a brand, spanking new private school that was just built a year ago. “I’ve never been so sure of something in my life.”
“But what if we meet a human with the sight?”
“Then they probably aren’t fully human, now are they?” I smirked, and she frowned. “Now come on, woman. We’re going to be late!”
We arrived at the school around seven AM. It was absolutely gorgeous. The white walls were perfectly carved into columns, like in ancient Rome or Greece. Little cubby cement cupids were hung almost everywhere. The floors were made of colorful blue Marble, and the walls were painted with replicas of Botticelli, Picasso, and ancient paintings of mythical Gods. The hallways were filled with red rose, lilac and jasmine bouquets. Their intoxicating scent filled the halls, classrooms, and the massive lawn outside the school.
The entire place was beautiful – magical even. It was exactly as I’d imagined.
“Melony,” I said as she eyeballed the school, “its amazing, isn’t it?”
“Yeah,” she agreed.
I felt a light tap on my shoulder, and turned around to see a dark pair of eyes staring back at me.
“SAM!” I cheered. Oh gosh! He’s actually here!
He wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me into the air. I smiled, feeling the warmth of his touch spread from my head to my toes. He kissed my cheek, and set me down. His eyes rested on Melony. He held out his hand.
“I believe we haven’t met yet,” he said, nervously. “I’m going to take over your job in about a year.”
She beamed. “I don’t think so, lover boy. Death is a big responsibility, and she still has a lot of more obstacles and enemies to overcome. You think you’re up to boot?”
He smirked. “She’s mine.”
“Good luck with that,” a new voice called from behind.
“Mom?” Can this day get any better?
“Hey, don’t forget about me!” Dad said smugly by here side.
Apparently it can.
I barely had time to register this all before I saw Zeke tow behind them, his eyes alight with curiosity and mischief. Ever since I healed the evil part of his soul, he’s never been the same. He’s been a lot more cheery, and playful. He’s treated me better, and never failed to hide his love for Melony. What’s the only downside to this all? He calls me sis.
Now he knows me as sis. He lost his virginity to his SIS!
Do you understand how awkward that sounds?
“Hey sis,” he said, happily. “Who’s he?”
“I’m Sam.” Sam said sternly. “Aren’t you Ezekiel Kazan?”
“Yeah,” Zeke said cheerfully. “But don’t worry. Sis healed me, and I no longer have any desire to kill her.”
He flinched at the word ‘kill’.
“Alright,” Sam said after a while. “But I’ll still be watching you.”
“That seems alright.” I added, smiling.
I had everyone around me I loved.
Well, almost everyone. I haven’t seen Melissa since I first found out I was Death, or Mr. Walker. I think they might have run off together or something. I miss Melissa like crazy. She basically raised me to be the person I am today! Life won’t be the same without her…
But hey, I have everyone around me, everyone who loves me; what could possibly go wrong?
I entered the school, my head up confidently.
As soon as I got in, a girl with black hair and silver eyes glared hatefully at me, a small shiny object in her hand.
Looks like I might have spoke too soon.
