Chapter Thirteen

Love Seems To Hate Us

Zeke Monet:

"I'm not scared of lions, and tigers, and bears (oh no),

But I'm scared of (loving' you).

I'm not scared to perform at a soul night affair (that's right),

But I'm scared of (loving' you).

Am I the only one who thinks it's an impossible task?

Why it don't last?

Is that too much to ask?

Why do we love, love when love seems to hate us?"

Jasmine Sullivan, Lions, Tigers, and Bears

I stood at the edge of my bed, feeling total regret for ever falling in love in the first place. What's the number one rule when fighting dirty? Know the other side. Falling for them only causes trouble.

But she makes it all worth it.

I've hunted the Angels of Death for as long as I can remember, so she was obviously always my number one target, my one and only true enemy. But when I looked into those beautiful light brown eyes and saw the panic, fear, and absolute sadness I knew I had to do everything in my power to keep her happy. I faked a multiple personality disorder just so I could truly get my hands on her. I didn't want her to know what I was truly after, for if that ever happened it could jeopardize her sanity even more.

Then she came into the picture and ruined everything. The last time I ever seen a guardian for an Angel of Death was back when Death first collaborated with God and the Devil promising them both souls meant for each domain. She never needed a guardian, but they both insisted on giving her their strongest fighters.

She was a powerful angel before she decided to step up and control neither the Death toll of the world, a huge responsibility God nor the Devil wanted to take up. She was the bloodline of the Angels of Death, and now her grandson has taken the huge task. Midnight will be next if she accepts. But what she doesn't know is that I have the power to stop that.

Melony is just her guardian, so taking her down should be easy. But then again, falling in love is easy too.

With first glance, my eyes deceived me

Such beauty, finesse, and yet sadness within her soul

Harm done before, harm done now,

But harm or not, I'll reach my goal.

Love is not an option.

Nor is a bond to her guardian angel.

Love or not, they're both going down.
