Chapter Ten
What in the World
I saw her standing at the edge of the forest, dressed in a flowing white gown, waiting for me with a black spiked bracelet. She smiled as I got closer, outstretching her arms toward me as if to say 'I'm here for you always'. Her warmth and radiant happiness could attract anyone to her…
…Even him.
He came from behind a large oak tree, his green eyes incredibly dark and evil. I gasped, so scared and anxious I started to run. He couldn't have her! She was mine!
But by the time I got there, he already had her in his arms. Her face was streaked with tears, and her mouth was taped down. Her big blue eyes held nothing but fear, and concern. I was trapped in the middle of it all, too afraid to touch them, too afraid to even make a move.
When he looked at me, his eyes seemed so warm and welcoming. He smiled as I approached, and whispered; "now nothing can come between us, Moon Shine."
He pulled a knife from his back pocket, and placed it on her throat. "MELONY!" I tried to scream. No sound came out, and so I was left silently shouting into the open air. Blood leaked from her throat, staining her skin and white dress. I silently cried at the sight.
Trevor didn't kill her.
Zeke did.
He's the love of my life; I can't hurt him without hurting myself.
So now what was I going to do?
I woke up screaming as usual, but this time out of fear, shock, and surprise. I had actually had a dream. I hadn't had a dream in a long time.
Wait a minute...
Dreams can give you signs of death, the afterlife, and the future. If what this dream is saying is true, then Trevor really isn't after Melony. Zeke is.
But he can't be...
Out of all the times I've seen him, he's shown hardly any interest in Melony. He's always too wrapped up in me to care. But if what this dream is saying is true, then he must be planning to kill her.
Or, at least, he will be.
"Good evening class!" shouted our creative writing teacher. "Today, I am proud to announce our new class project! We are starting...." she pounded her fist on the desk as if to drum roll, "A poetry unit!"
I perked up a bit. I love poetry! I could do this in my sleep!
She babbled on and on about the unit, and I paid attention to her every word. As she began to assign it to us, a chill went up my spine. This could only mean one thing.
He was here.
I turned my head slowly, and caught sight of a patch of incredibly dark black hair. I froze. He slowly lifted his head up, grazing his dark green eyes around the room until he stopped on a particular face.
Melony seemed like she was okay, but I knew she was hiding the fear she felt. I began to shake it panic, feeling her anxiety build as if we were connected. He smiled at my obvious fear, and stood up. He pointed in her direction and smiled as she asked to leave.
The moment she left was the moment the voices began to scream.
Horrible, ear-splitting, ground-shaking screams erupted in my mind and caused me to shake and hold my ears as if to put a stop to them. I fell out of my chair chanting, "Make them stop! Make them stop! MAKE THEM STOP!" But instead of getting out of their seats and asking what's wrong, they all froze and stared wide-eyed at me, giving me the 'she's totally insane' look.
Finally, I broke down, and shouted the names and last dates of my classmates out of anger.
"Jacob Anthony Sokks, June 14th 2025. Cause of death, a shot to the left lung. FERA Wells Genison, August 18th 2034. Cause of death, a stroke from years of alcohol and drug abuse. Harold Wen Whimsly, September 23rd 2020. Cause of death, murder. Keshia Sharon Adams, November 11th 2023. Cause of death, liver failure." On and on, the list went. After five minutes of shouting, someone finally got up and tried to get me off of the ground.
After ten minutes of shouting, four people tried to get me off the ground.
After fifteen minutes of shouting the entire class was by my side trying to assist me in some way, whether it was getting me up or asking what's wrong.
Another scream broke me out of my funk, and I raced down the hall. I knew that voice anywhere; even if she's screaming I can still tell. My feet moved towards the sound, and in seconds I was in the bathroom.
That was strange.
Melony was on the ground, her eyes overflowing with tears, and her expression held torture and shock. I could barely take it.
I lay down on the floor beside her and looked into her eyes.
I saw absolutely nothing.
The white of her eyes had shown completely, no beautiful blue taking away from the terror. Her body twitched as she let out another horrifying scream, nearly tearing my eardrums.
"Melony, what's wrong?!" She screamed back in response. Her skin literally shook, began to turn purple. Had she stopped breathing? "Melony, snap out of it," The purple began spreading wider, taking over the color in her legs and neck. "Melony, don't die on me now!" But it was too late. Her mouth closed as she stopped moving, the whites of her eyes were still visible as she became as immobile as stone. "Mel?"
I hesitantly poked her on her arm, and she growled back in response. As soon as she realized it was me, she stopped, and her blue eyes reappeared. "Melony, what happened?"
