Luella Smith sat down beside her granddaughter, who lay asleep on her bed, breathing heavily, a frown on her face.

She sighed.

"Oh , my poor dear !" she whispered , her tone filled with sympathy and ...regret.

She still remembered that day, the incident that took place, six years ago.

As Hazel entered the house, her face was ash grey. Her body was shaking, as she looked passively into nothingness.

Luella ran to Hazel and wrapped her arms around her. She held her till she stopped shivering.

"What happened, Hazel ?" she asked, cupping Hazel's face in her hands.

She did not reply.

It had taken her quiet sometime to get back to normal. Hazel had finally narrated the episode to her, a few days later, but the event had traumatized her so much that after recollecting it, she went all numb, back to the state that she had recovered from.

Luella had not expected that it would have such an impact on Hazel, after so many years.

All along, Luella had known who the lady was. She had understood everything,  but could not tell anyone. And that  tormented her more than anything.

Keeping secrets is a tough job, but keeping secrets from those closest to your heart is a tougher one. No one could know it better than herself.

After all, Luella Smith was an unsolved mystery.
