" Walk ..fast." Cindy managed to shout out. The salty taste of sweat trickled onto her tongue.

" You mean faster ?" Ced asked. He did not understand. The destination was nowhere near , and they still had a long way to go. Every minute was precious , every second was being counted and every hour that got wasted, would cost them.

Her head ached to think of the consequences.

"I have no stomach for any kind of humour, Cedron. We aren't here for a nice little walk in the woods. The fate of the realm depends on this quest. But ever since we started, there has been a diversion at every step." she snapped.

Hazel and Cedron gazed at her with a mixture of surprise and worry.

"Cindy, you worry needlessly..." Ced began.

" You know what , Ced ? You never try. You never try to be better than what you are. You don't possess the will. Do you know why you sit with books all day? You refuse to face responsibilities and the consequences of your action. You hide." she said, her face red with anger.

Ced looked at her , his eyes wide with shock. He shrugged, pretending to be aloof.

" Cindy ! You shouldn't have .." Hazel's worried glance moved from Cindy to Ced.

"Don't bother, Hazel. That's exactly how I am." Ced said, " And I am good, sorry , fine , that way."

Cindy sighed. Words and arrows cannot be taken back. Be careful who you aim them at.

" Ced ..I am sorry. I didn't mean it."

"It doesn't matter." Ced said.

" Sure ?"

" I don't care." he stated.

His reply did nothing to ease her guilt . In fact , it worked contrarily.

Ced turned to Hazel and looked at her expectantly. Hazel simply stared back at him.

"Weren't you saying something?" he asked.

"Me? I don't think so." Hazel said.

" Never mind."

" Huh !" she scowled , " Weird !"

Ced's attention had already drifted away from her.

A few seconds later, Hazel's face lit up.
" So yeah , I was saying ..." she continued.

Ced rolled his eyes.

Ced rarely talked to many people. He never felt the need to, unlike Cindy , an instant favourite of anyone she met.

Everyone knew her. Barely anyone knew him. She had called him a bore and a pathetic snob, but that had not stopped him from being the same.

A few friends and a few words said , were the introvert's bliss.
