I ran as fast as my feet would carry me through the dark slippery tunnels in the cave. I was running behind Nori who was mumbling to himself things like "keep going" and "almost there." Behind me was Dwalin, whose boots were incredibly loud when the hit the ground.
Finally we see a small hint of light attempting to penetrate the dark tunnels. It gets larger and larger until we see trees and the sky and we all run out and continue down the hill a while further. All of the Company, minus Gandalf, pause to catch a breath. The Wizard began to count how many dwarves were present. "Where is Iredessa?"
I popped out from behind Bombur. "Here!" I said as I made my way towards Fili and Kili.
"Ah yes. That makes thirteen. Now where is Bilbo? Where is our other hobbit?" Gandalf asks.
Dwalin spoke up, "Curse the halfling. Now he's lost!" I sent a glare towards him that he failed to notice.
"I thought he was with Dori!" Gloin claimed.
"Don't blame me!" Dori responded.
"Well, where did you last see him," Gandalf question.
"I think I saw him slip away when they first collared us." Nori answered.
"What happen exactly? Tell me!" Gandalf demanded.
Thorin stepped forward. "I'll tell you what happened. Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it! He's thought of nothing but his soft bed and his warm hearth since first he stepped out of his door! We will not be seeing our Hobbit again. He is long gone."
I gasped slightly putting my hand to my mouth, tears threatening to fall. Bilbo couldn't be gone. He just couldn't. He's come so far and he's loves the Company. Right? Suddenly something broke me from my thoughts. "No, he's not," Bilbo said while stepping out from behind a tree.
"Bilbo Baggins!" Gandalf exclaimed. I've never been so glad to see anyone in my entire life!"
"Bilbo, we'd given you up!" Kili said.
"How on earth did you escape the goblins?" I asked going up to hug him.
Bilbo gave a nervous laugh before Gandalf interrupted. "Well what does it matter? He's back." I nodded in agreement.
Thorin stepped forward. I gave him a death glare that I knew he ignored. "It matters. I want to know. Why did you come back?"
Bilbo sigh, "Look, I know you don't me, you always have. And you're right, I often think of Bag End. I miss my books and my armchair. I miss my dinners with Iredessa." He looked at me and smiled. "See, that's where I belong. That's home. And that's why I came back, because you don't have one. A home. It was taken from you. But I will help take it back if I can."
Everyone smiles for a ment before a large howl ethos down the mountain. "Out of the frying pan." Thorin started.
"And into the fire. Run!" Gandalf finished following behind the rest of the company as we ran. As we reached the edge of the cliff the Wargs had reached us. Bilbo cowardly pulled out his sword holding it in front of him. A charging Warg impaled itself in his sword. I turned around to see a large Warg coming straight for me. I tried to run but couldn't move my feet. I felt a hand grab me and I was gingerly placed beside Dwalin in. "Don't just stand there next time okay?" I nodded.
I glanced behind me quickly. The rest of the company were safely in the trees. Fili and Kili were across from me and Bilbo was in a tree besides them. When I turned around, I saw an orc pale as death riding a white Warg. Then I remembered what the goblin king had said. A pale orc astride a white Warg. Azog the Defiler. Then the orc spoke, "Nuzdigid? Nuzdi gast?" (Do you smell it? The scent of fear.) I knew it was black speech, but never had I heard it before. "Ganzilig-I unarug obod nauzdanish, Thorin undag Thrain-ob." (I remember your father reeked of it, Thorin son of Thrain.) Azog raised his arm that has a spear stuck through it commanding the orcs, "Kod, Toragid-biriz. Worori-da!" (That one is mine. Kill the others!) The Wargs began to claw at the trees, shaking them viciously. Dwalin helped me climbed higher. It began to be very difficult to hold on. "Sho gad adol!" (Drink their blood!) The trees one by one began to fall creating a domino effect. I jumped to Fili and Kili's tree, which just so happens to be on the very edge of the cliff. Gandalf out of deep desperation began to light pine cones and rising them to us, which we tossed at the Wargs. The tree, from all of the added weight fell to its side. I slipped clinging to the edge. I never thought I'd die being attacked by Wargs, dangling from a tree, and hopelessly in love with two dorks. As I felt myself slip I closed my eyes waiting for the worse until I felt someone pull me up.
I opened my eyes to the face of a worried Kili. "Be careful."
I sighed rubbing my hands together, "I'm fine." I turned away from him. Thorin had gotten up at was willing towards Azog. I had a lot of mixed feelings. Yes I despise him but,"THORIN!" I called.
It was too late. The white Warg had bit into his armoured torso and tossed him aside. "Biriz torag khobdudol." (Bring me the dwarf's head.) An orc jumps from his Warg slowly waking up to Thorin until, I couldn't believe my eyes, Bilbo jumped and stabbed the monster in its chest. The orcs were infuriated and began to close in on Bilbo, but I, Fili, Kili, and Dwalin all raced and began to fight them. I paused after beheading an orc. A loud call rang in the air. I looked up to see humongous eagles apart above me.
"The halfling?" Thorin asked stumbling to get up.
"It's alright. They are both here. And they are quite safe," Gandalf answered.
Thorin walked up to the both of them. "You! What were you two doing. You nearly got yourself killed! Did I not say that you would be a burden? That you would not survive in the wild? That you had no place among us?" I looked at him frightened. "I have never been so wrong in all my life." He pulled is in a deep embrace. I knew Bilbo was as surprised as me, but we hugged him back nonetheless. When he released us he said, "I am sorry I doubted you."
"No I would've doubted me too." Bilbo began, "I'm not a hero out a warrior."
"Not even a burglar." I said causing every one to laughed. "Is that what I think it is?" I asked looking at a solitary mountain.
"Erebor," started Gandalf. "The Lonely Mountain. The last of the great dwarf kingdoms of Middle Earth."
"A raven! The birds are returning to the mountains." Oin exclaimed, pointing at a passing bird.
"That my dear Oin is a thrush." Gandalf corrected.
"But we'll take it as a sign. A good omen," Thorin said walking up to Bilbo placing a hand on his shoulder.
"You're right. I do believe the worst is behind us," Bilbo said.
I wish I believed him.
