Chapter Sixty-Seven: Goodbyes

"Are you ready, Brittany," Mr. Cena asked as he held his daughter's shoulders.

"I don't know, Dad," she said as she looked towards the curtains with worry. "This is a pretty big moment."

"Quit worrying so much," Ms. Cena said, caressing her daughter's cheeks gently. "You'll get wrinkles in your forehead."

Dean, not wanting to hear another word of his girlfriend's pessimistic doubts, walked over and slung an arm around her shoulders, smiling when he caught her by surprise. "You'll do fine. And if they don't like it, so what?"

"But I'll be stealing the spotlight from you. They'll probably get mad. This just an intense amount of pressure. I- I don't know if I can handle it," Brittany broke off, starting to shake.

"Honey," her mother said as she held her hands,"you've done so well in the past. This won't be any different. Remember that you wanted to do this."

She sighed, leaning into Dean. "I know."

Looking to Brittany's parents, Dean noticed at that precise moment, there passed a glance between the two elders. He could not decipher if it was a glimmer of love or if there was some secret that they were hiding. He wanted to know more, but shook it off. He glanced down at Brittany and watched as she rhythmically drummed her fingers on the microphone. Dean's wishes had come true. He had been hoping and praying ever since the end of Wrestlemania that Brittany would stay. He had claimed in the past that he was alright with her decision to drop out of the wrestling business, but he had lied. And thankfully, after one nasty fight and with her having spent nearly two hours inside of Carano's office, she was going to stay. Even better, he was going to put her talents to good use and become a professional wrestler at last. It overwhelmed him with so much joy that he almost forgot that he was the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

It was definitely an honor that Triple H and Vince had given it to him at last. It wasn't something that he had truly wanted despite what he made himself believe, but now that Dean had it, he wanted to make the best of it. And tonight would also be a truly special night. Since Roman was still a heel, he would now be in a feud with his former brother-in-arms.

But it was time to suit up and focus on the mid-way point of Raw, which was the most critical. He knew that after last night, viewership would be through the roof. Wrestlemania 32 had captivated a television audience of eight million people, something that had never been done before. And tonight, he knew it would be even better.

At that moment, Triple H rounded the corner, seeming to be in a bit of a good mood.

"Five minutes," he announced. "Mr. and Ms. Cena. Can I take you back to your seats?"

So polite. What kind of drugs is he on, Dean wondered.

"We'll see you later, honey," Ms. Cena said as she began to walk away.

"Thanks, Mom."

"And as for you, Jon," Mr. Cena walked closer. He put one hand on Dean's shoulder, adopted a stern look and said,"thank you for taking care of my daughter. Maybe you're not such a bad guy after all."

Dean couldn't believe it. It sounded as if the man that had ultimately made his life a living hell over the past month, the man whom he would have guessed that would have despised him for breaking his one and only daughter's heart now accepted him once more. Dean didn't say or do anything for a minute or two. The shock that he was experiencing had taken over his entire body.

"I um...I-uh...," he was at a loss for words. "Th-thank you, Mr. Cena. It was not trouble at all."

"John?" Ms. Cena called out for her ex-husband.
