Chapter Two: Hangovers & Reflections
The temperature in the room was chilly. The walls were painted a solid white and had two ornate paintings hanging on either side of the television. The carpet was littered with clothes. A pair of jeans near the bed, a shirt strewed over the oak chair, shoes and a black leather jacket lying on top of a suitcase, and a pair of fingerless gloves next to the bathroom door. There was a bed. It had solid white pillows, blankets, and sheets that were blinding. It was soft and comfortable, at least that's how he knew it to be. It just the right size for one person, although somedays he wished there was someone to share it with. And with his head hidden underneath a pillow, Dean Ambrose was still sound asleep.
He had been drinking before sleep beckoned its fingers. A few shots of tequila followed by some premium Jack Daniels whiskey, Dean had gotten drunk before the clock could strike midnight. A night out with some friends from work, including Roman, last night was one of the best nights that Dean has had in six months. He knew the consequences before he drank but did not care.
Now? He was starting to wish that he hadn't.
Suddenly, the little black alarm clock that was located next to the lamp began to wail. He groaned in protest. The noise only amplified the pain in his head. His ears throbbed at the sound. After several attempts to silence it, Dean became even angrier and pushed it off of the nightstand.
His blue eyes remained shut, but suddenly opened at the sound of someone knocking at the door of the hotel room.
"Yo, Jon! Are you up yet?" Roman.
Dean groaned as loudly as he could possibly manage.
What had not happened since Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose became friends? From their first interactions during their days in developmental, the transition into NXT, the conjuring and the destruction of The Shield and their singles' runs, the two friends had been through it all. Wrestling is the main reason as to why they befriended each other so quickly. And when their former ally Seth Rollins was thrown into the mix, what seemed to be an unbreakable bond was born and soon, The Shield became the most destructive group to ever exist in sports entertainment.
November 18, 2012 is a date that no one shan't soon forget. The Shield debuted at Survivor Series during the main event. They destroyed almost everything in their path, and allowed CM Punk to retain his title. The next night, they identified who they were and vowed to rally against injustice. Everyone dubbed them as mercenaries for CM Punk and Paul Heyman over the next few months. For almost every time that CM Punk would have a match whether on a pay-per-view or on television, the Shield would emerge from the crowd and take out his adversaries. The Shield intimidated and everyone soon came to live in fear, wondering if they would be attacked as well. The original concept was for the Shield to protect CM Punk and his title, but too the astonishment of many, they became something more than just a team of ruthless, viscous, SWAT team-clad wrestlers. The original idea had faded away into oblivion.
The writers had decided that it was time to reveal to the world that the Shield had been working for CM Punk the whole time. Maddox revealed to the WWE Universe that it was him who gave the scandalous footage to Vince McMahon, the chairman of the WWE, and soon, the Shield was in a feud with not only John Cena, but Sheamus and Randy Orton.
The Shield went on to challenge Orton and Sheamus to a six-man tag team match at Wrestlemania with the partner of their choice. The Shield's opponents' inability to work together provided the perfect advantage and so, on April 7, 2013 at Wrestlemania 29, the Shield won their Wrestlemania debut and cemented their status as the Hounds of Justice.
