I stared at the girl in the mirror. That couldn't be me! This girl had long, wavy golden hair. I had short curly hair. I turned around to look at my dress ladies. "Are you sure I can't go in my new uniform?" The sisters had made me a royal-blue uniform that, instead of the three golden stars of a Pride Guard, had four silver moons sewn on the fabric. When I saw it, I had begged them for something that I could repay them with. "No, you're going to wear your blue-and-white silk-dress." Sema, the oldest of the sisters, said. I stared at them blankly, and then looked down at the blue-and-white dress. When I moved, if moved like the soft ripples of water. Lynn, the younger of the two sisters, grinned, "You look beautiful, Holy Daughter." The brunette said, smiling. Holy Daughter is the word they call the daughter of the pride-heart. The pride-heart is usually a female, but there have been rare cases where they have been male. My mother is the pride-heart, my father a Pride Guard. And, as strange as it may be, I don't really know who my father is.

But when I walk past one of the Pride Guards, he always smiles proudly. I have some suspicions that he may be my father. I reach for my phone on the bed, but Sema pushes my hand back down, "No phones are allowed in the ceremony." She said. I huffed, "Alright," I said, opening the door. I walk out of the door; my shoes feel very strange when I walk in them, maybe because they're heels? Eh, I dunno.

As I'm walking I can hear that more of my pride has gathered in the ball room, and I walk down the stairs to get there. I hide my face as the Announcer announces my name. I look at him with a small smile, and set a foot on the tile floor. At once, my mother rushes up to me. I give a small bow, a loyal gesture, and my mother returns it. "Since today is your seventeenth birthday, it is the day you are to meet your father!" She says, and grabs my wrist. She pulls me through the crowd of pride members, and towards the White Room. The 'White Room' is a pure white room. All four walls are white. There are no windows, or any other things. It's just an empty white room.

A man, wearing an orange-and-black jacket it standing in front of us, and I don't know who the hell he is...until my mother explains.

"This is your father." She says. "But he stinks of water..." I don't know how to explain his scent, but his jacket stinks of reeds and forest. "Yes, he is a solitary hunter, a tiger." I widen my eyes when my mother says this, and I take a step back. "Your mate is another type of werecat!" I say, bewildered. My mother seems a bit bore concealed now, and she takes a step towards me. "No, he's not." She says, and I burry my face in my hands, trying to comprehend what their trying to tell me. "So, you're a-a-a tiger-type werecat?" I say, my voice comes out so small, I can't believe it's me who's saying this.

My mother nodded, "And so are you." She says, and I close my eyes, I can't believe this... My mother, the pride-heart, had been lying to me for seventeen years! I feel blood rush to my veins, and I put down my hands, which curl into fists, and I can't control or comprehend what's happening. "You lied to me! You said that you were a lion type werecat!" I hiss, I can feel the blood rush to my heart, and I can feel my teeth turn into sharp fangs. My eyes become a clear blue, and I can't hold any of this in anymore... My mother reaches out to me, and I snap at her, hissing. "Should I even call you mother now? Mothers don't betray their children, much less their pride! Honestly, I don't think that you're really suppost to be the pride-heart!" I hiss in spitting fury.

For the first time this evening, my father speaks up, "Don't talk to your pride-heart like that! And don't you dare shift for the first time here! Shifting is for being in the forest only." He says strangely calmly. I can feel my human ears become cat ears, my hands become furrier... My mother takes a step forward, and places a hand on my head. I hiss at her, but for some reason the fury gradually turns into calmness, the blood rushing through me, it goes back to its regular motion. My ears are normal, my fangs gone. My chest is heaving in and out, and soon steadies itself.

My mother sighs, "I didn't lie to you." She says, looking at me. I glare at her, arms crossed. "I was born in a band of tiger type werecats, but I gradually became much less solitary, more like a lion type werecat. I became more social, and my parents left me on the doorstep on the pride you know now. You father, in the other hand-" My father breaks in, "I was fully solitary, but I knew that your mother was my mate. I gave up my life as a solitary tiger type werecat, and joined your mother's pride. I watched you as you grew up, too. And all I could do was look proud of you." He said, looking at my mother, who nods.

I stare at them with a small smile, "Well, sorry about the going crazy thing. Should we go back out?" I ask, nodding to the door. My father nods to my mother, who nods at me, and my mother leads the way out.

I'm falling asleep; I've danced and spoken too much. I'm about to close my eyes, and lay my head down on my arms when my mother silences the room, and calls me forward. She's standing with my father and eleven other pride-members. I recognize them, because I picked them to be my Advisors. I could only pick eleven, but my mother picked the twelfth, my father. My mother, of course, is also one of my Advisors, she's my Guide. I stand on the stage, there's a sandy pool of clear salt-water, and I look at my mother anxiously.

My mother looks at the crowd, "This ceremony is for my daughter to swear her loyalty to her pride, and with a sip of the pride's sacred pool, her loyalty will be concealed in-" She's stopped short, her hand holding a glass of the salt-water. We glance around for the person who had yelled something. "She can't swear-in!" A red-headed guy with aqua eyes yells, pushing is way to the front of the crowd

I stare at the guy in bewilderment. "Why not?" My mother asks, voice booming. The guy takes in a deep breath, "Because I am the wolf and she is my mate."
