"What are you doing ? You've been on that laptop for one hour now !", I yelled at Nicky. I was writing a report to submit it to NatGeo on my computer.
"I was just transfering the photos that we clicked girl ! I need them", she said , her eyes not leaving the screen.
We were back in my campus. Queensland was fantastic but there certainly were other adventures to look forward to.
"Nicky?"
"Mhm?"
"We never talked about how you felt. The dive you know ?"
She finally looked up.
"The dive ? I haven't experienced anything like that ever before. It was....er... I can't even find a proper word. Any word will be a complete injustice to how I actually felt. You were right Reyna. Now I won't have to look back at my life and say "I wish I could have done that" and instead I'll just say "I can't believe I did that", she finished with a smile.
I got up and gave her a bear hug. Nicky had enjoyed after all !
"By the way", Nicky began ,"Do write about that beautiful big fish that we saw. The one with the big fins. What was it called ? Santa Ray I think", she said narrowing her eyes.
"Dude ! It's MANTA Ray. Honestly women, I dunno why are you so excited about Christmas. SANTA doesn't gift you anything anyway", I said glaring at her as she chuckled.
"Umm.. Rey ? My flight is at nine tomorrow morning. You haven't forgotten have you ?
Right.... She was leaving. How can I forget ?
"No. Of course not ! I'll drive you there", I sighed forcing a smile.

"Do tell me when you get accepted into NatGeo... They'll love the photos", Nicky was trying to hold back her tears.
Well of course.. Not all friends last this long !
"The photos were never clicked by me Nick", I laughed," they'll probably accept you !"
"Bullcrap girl... Only the initial ones were by me. And the reports that you wrote are kickass so relax ! Keep mailing me often bitch. I would love to see the places that you'll visit through your mails. And yeah .. Also wave a hi from me each time you see a santa ray", she winked.
I laughed.
She then pulled me in for a hug. I think she hugged me a bit too long because by the time we pulled apart, we earned a good many quizzical looks from people.
"Oh gosh", Nicky muttered,"they must have thought that we...."
"Shoo !! Say no more bitch. Go away now ... Or your flight might leave without you", I said trying desperately to shush her.
"Well, then I'll go on the runway becoming lady Tom Cruise waving my hand for the plane to stop.", she tried to joke earning a "WTF" look from me.
She then picked up her bag waved me a quick goodbye and left probably not wanting me to see her cry.
Wow ! Alone again Reyna.
I smiled. I couldn't help but think what life had in store for me. To which place this year would take me. I turned trotting towards the car.
I couldn't wait to put down the map and get wonderfully lost. Somewhere remote with not a soul in sight ! ❤️
