"Your mail is sent" read the computer screen. It had been two weeks in hostel and I had no roommates. Not that I wanted any so soon. I was going to take my own time in settling down. My room was okay... Liveable. Some scribblings on the wall and a small bed which occupied the corner and a book shelf. It faced the garden of the new campus.

It was a heavenly feeling to step onto the airport of Queensland, Australia. Lonely but beautiful nevertheless. I was driven down to the campus and shown around by the vice- principle. It was an alien feeling...in an alien country. The Australian breeze felt so different and new. Almost like the sea.

I had also applied for an internship and National geographic had two seats. I was asked for my grades and to my pleasure had been accepted within two days. My classes only began next month and the internship this week which was a good thing because jet lag was affecting me real bad.

"Greetings and welcome to Australia. National Geographic believes in giving a stage to young bloomers in practical and not academically hence, a tour of Queensland has been planned for all the new interns.

The assignment is to photograph the place and study about it as much as possible in terms of environment and culture and fauna. Interns are allowed to pick a companion of their choice on their first trip only. Details will be emailed as soon as the conformation is handed over.

I read and re-read and kept doing so till my brain could handle the information. Ecstasy was gobbling me up. Queensland ? Me ?! I realised how easily I was getting opportunities lately and that thought bugged me. I called up my mother and asked her if she would want to join me to Queensland to which she said she was proud but couldn't come all the same. Then, being the best mommie that she was, gave me a splendid idea.

"Nickiii !! How are you ? And Andrew? Oh it's ages since we gossiped !"

I gave her the details and prayed that she would come.

"Please do come ! We'll have a hell of a time. We finally get to be the travel buds ! Reply soon :)"

As soon as my mail was sent another one popped up in my inbox.

"Reyna Kane. So it's really you ? I'm in.
-Nicky"

I fist punched the air.
Sure was going to be one hell of a trip !

The next couple of days were spent in exploring the place. I had nothing to do until classes began and I had to make a few friends here anyway. The beach, thank heavens, was close by and I went there everyday sometimes to watch the sun rise , sometimes to watch it set and sometimes to watch and teach myself the constellations.

I was getting used to the feel of being alone. I started enjoying my company but I couldn't help getting excited to see Nicky.

I wondered what Queensland had to offer. The city still remained unexplored. The only place I knew was the beach. I suddenly remembered the words someone had once told me...

"Hold on tight babe because life is gonna be a rollercoaster"

.......and I couldn't stop myself from smiling as the evening sun smiled back at me.
