Dangerous Pursuit

Chapter 2

                  

"Good morning Dr. Servado. How is our mystery patient?" I smiled at the old surgeon doctor.

ICU is not my assigned area but I took the chance to ask him when I passed by the place. I must stay subtle or else other staff will notice that I am too interested with the patient.

For one week now, Jeremy is still in coma. His vital signs are good but for how long he will stay on this sad state is unpredictable. I already planned my departure with Melissa since the day I found out about Jeremy but my conscience can't take it leaving him in this state. After all we work together before and we had been very good friends. I just hope our employers before did not yet trace him here.

Where the fuck is his partner or teammates? They should help each other. He has been here for a week and nobody is helping him. There is something wrong. This was not our protocol.

"He is finally awake." Dr. Servado informed me while looking at the chart.

"Really?" I said the word with a little squeak making Dr. Servado look at me with a frown.

He shook his head. "Including you Sandra? Don't tell me that you are also interested with the handsome man." He softly chuckles.

I blush a little. He misinterpreted my interest but it is better that way.

I smiled and tease him. "Can't a girl dream sometimes doctor."

He chuckles. I have known him since I started my work here three years ago and he knows I am a single mother.

"I am just curious doctor."

His face changed into a serious one. Is it something I said? "Yeah, we are all concern about him specially he is not from here and he is severely wounded. He is okay but unfortunately he has temporary amnesia."

"What?" I almost said that loud and he look at me puzzled.

"It's dangerous for him doctor. What if he is a victim of kidnapping? Maybe his captors is looking for him already." I tried to explain.

"Or worst, he is the villain," he added, "that is why the police are coming to guard him until they find out who he really is. According to what I heard, they will alert the national police, FBI and whatever sector is that about him."

Suddenly, I felt my blood drained from my body.

Melissa. We have to move now. If they can trace him here, I will be definitely be exposed and it is very dangerous for Melissa.

"Are you okay, Sandra?"

"Umm.....yes....I was just thinking, we used to be peaceful here, doctor."

"Yeah, you are right. We are countryside and all of us here know each other well. This is really alarming. But I hope this is not the reason why you resigned."

I submitted my resignation since I found out about Jeremy but I am allowed to go after one month. No, we have to move tonight.

"No, not at all doctor. My parents forgive me already and they want to see their grandchild." I lied.

He nods and smiled showing compassion to my situation.

"Bye doctor."

I hurriedly left him without waiting for him to answer. I went directly to the restroom to think.

We can leave tonight but what about Jeremy.

I pulled a paper from my purse. This was given to me by Jeremy when we still worked together. It is a personal contact according to him. It is not from the organization at all. He said we can trust this person.
