Dangerous Pursuit

Chapter 4

                  

I used the road at the back of my house to bring the new car and Jeremy. It is already dark and nobody will notice me.....I hope. My house is lighted by night lamp outside. I put off the headlights of the car as I slowly find the secret trail. The old lady is really good. She purposely gave me a black car so that it can be hidden easily in the dark.

"Damn you're good." Jeremy blurted.

I look at him at the rear mirror. He was observing things all the time. I thought he was sleeping. I press a button on my phone and a secret garage slowly opened. Making sure nobody is watching as I scan the cameras around the house using my phone, I park the car inside and the garage slowly closed.

"So, is it safe now?" Jeremy tries to communicate with me.

"Go down," I ordered. I press another button on my phone to open the lights of the garage.

I open the basement door and ushered him to follow me.

He looks at me trying to read my mind.

"You will stay here and don't go out. I will bring all your medications, food and everything you need."

"Am I a prisoner then?" he softly teased.

I sigh and look at him with irritation. "May I remind you that you just escaped death. You are a 'prisoner' for the meantime until you are safe.......I am safe." Melissa is safe.

"The room is provided with everything you need. Don't worry sunshine will come to you but you are not allowed to go outside and be seen by anybody."

"So you can murder me then and dig my grave here without anybody knowing." He tried to protest.

"I could have done that to you in the hospital without any hassle of digging a grave for you inside my house."  I glare at him.

"I am just kidding. Why so tense?" He sat on the bed trying to mask his pain and exhaustion.

I looked at him. He never changed. He is still the easy going Jeremy even in life and death situation. He tries to lighten everything and tries to hide whatever pain he has.

"Try to make yourself comfortable. I will bring food in a while so that you can take your medicine."

I left him and try to check the car the old lady gave me. I need to scan any explosive device from it. I guess no need to remove any tracking device. She knows where I live according to the navigator. I really can't understand but I think I can trust her. Her contact is the last one I have with me in case of emergency and it was given by Jeremy himself. It is a secret code just between me and him. I was not able to give it back to him when I left.

I scanned the car with my phone. Many things are in the secret compartments. I must admit she's really something. I guess I can check what's inside the next day. I need to fix things first with Jeremy. I must fix Melissa.

I went to the kitchen to check what I have in the fridge. I am starving and I have a patient to take care of. What a life? Fate is really cruel with me.

I was startled when my alarm suddenly beeps.

Shit! Someone access my safe areas. I pulled my gun in the cupboard and hide. I felt movement going towards me. I put up my gun to the intruder and ready to attack when I stop and saw the surprise face of Jeremy in front of me.

"Shit! It's only you."

"Hey, you are so jittery. I am beginning to think that I am too dangerous."
