*Zayn POV*
"Lisa, do you think you could ever fall for someone like me?" the words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop, I didn't mean to wonder that out loud. I wish I could take it back.
"Maybe I could, I mean you're really nice and.. yeah, I could." She turned to look away. I felt my chest swell, but I didn't get my hopes up. She probably said that to make the situation less awkward, and she didn't mean it. I wish she did, though. It felt so right to have her in my arms for those few seconds, that is where she belongs.
She doesn't realise how pretty she is. The way there is always a smile tugging at the corner of her lips, and the playful look on her face. But sometimes, just sometimes, a sad and angry look is visible behind those bright eyes. I wonder what happened to make it that way, but I'm no position to ask her. Maybe some other day, I will.
She looked beautiful in her navy blue dress, with her dark hair flowing down her back, and the smile that always graces her face made her appear younger than she actually is. I needed to stop gawping at her, or it would get weird between us. Though I think I caught her staring at me for a little while when I went to pick her up, she composed herself quickly. Or maybe I'm imagining things, but I like to hope that I'm not.
"Look, Zayn! That butterfly's so pretty! And there are more too!" she said excitedly, before adding, "I don't usually get to see them at home or anywhere as such, you know. I used to love playing with them when I went to grandma's house when I was younger."
"Yeah, I love coming to this place once in a while, I don't usually get to come here a lot because of my schedule. I thought you'd like it. I discovered it on a hiking trip with my friends, in ninth grade I reckon." I remember that day like it was yesterday, I got lost in the place and I had to stay alone overnight till my friends found me in the morning. I didn't mention it to her.
"Are you hungry yet?" I asked, I was hungry but I wouldn't start without her, of course.
"Yes, I just realised that I haven't eaten anything since breakfast" As if on cue, there was a low rumble from her stomach. Her cheeks turned bright red, and I had to stifle my laugh, she's so cute.
"Look, I meant it when I said I was hungry, okay?", she said, before adding defensively, "I haven't had anything since breakfast, and I eat a lot compared to other girls."
"Let's get started then!"
We sat down on the sheets and she opened the baskets. I had packed a lot of food, so I wasn't really surprised to see her mouth hung open: sausage rolls, cheddar cheese on crackers, buttered crumpets, sandwiches, cheese tarts, meringue, pudding and two bottles of apple juice.
We munched on the food as we chatted more, I haven't talked so much with anyone except the boys, and it felt good to know that she got along so easily with me. There weren't any awkward silences yet.
We finished the lunch and as I was packing the stuff, she said that she wanted to stay here for some more time.
"Of course we can, I love this place too!" I was beyond happy that she liked this place, because it was one of my favourites. I have a feeling that we'll be coming here more often, I hope that I'm correct.
"So what do you plan to do when your college course is over?" will she be staying here or will she move away?
"I will find a job, and I'll permanently move here. I really like it here in London, and I have made so many friends. I can see my future over here, in this city. She smiled as she spoke, and I mentally whooped. There was one thing I could be sure of, if we ever were together, she wouldn't leave me to move away.
"That's nice! Do you know what job do you wanna do?" now that I come to think of it, she never spoke about her interests.
She pondered for a while, and then replied, "I haven't decided yet, but as I am doing the course in media and social sciences, I guess it'll be something related to that." I could sense she didn't want to pursue a career in that line, but she didn't have any choice. I wonder what her hidden talents are.
We say in silence for some more time, not the awkward kind of silence, but the comfortable kind of silence. The sun was just setting, and it made the sky turn deep orange. Birds were returning to the huge trees, and were perched on their nests. The stream had a golden tinge to it, with the reflection of the setting sun. It was truly spectacular, like the ones artists chose for their paintings.
I took her right hand and held it in mine, and she didn't seem to mind. I grinned, internally.
And that's why I smile, it's been a while, since every day and everything has felt this right
Her phone was ringing from her clutch, I swear the song lyrucs hint at me right now. She opened it and answered, I heard her mumble, "Who could be calling me? I told Zoey not to call me while I'm away, I just hope everything's okay."
Her face paled when she saw her phone, and I reckoned it was the same guy who had called her when I visited Sarah's home. Why does she get so nervous every time he calls her? What is his name?
She quickly swiped her finger over the 'silence' button on the phone, her phone continued to ring but the tone died down immediately.
"Who is it?" I asked apprehensively, I knew she might not want to reveal that, but I wanted to know.
"It's no one important." I noted the tone of dismissal in her voice, so I didn't prod her further. I will find out soon, and I hope she will be the one to tell me. I want her to trust me, and I want to hurt the guy who is doing this to her.
The next thing she did caught me totally off guard. She kissed me. Her lips touched mine lightly, as if to let me know that she trusted me. I kissed her back, her lips molded with mine perfectly. It never felt more right kissing someone. Before it could get heated, she withdrew.
It was a simple gesture, not a make out session or anything close to that, but it made me want to whoop my fist in the air. She kissed me, she did. I didn't even ask her for it, nor did I try to make a move on her. So many feelings crossed my mind at that moment, happiness being the most noticeable one. I think she noticed it too.
What just happened?
