A chapter in Aliens but done in June's perspective! I suggest reading Alien first so everything makes more sense.
Life's an endless roller coaster. I've learned that in the two years of living in the tribe. There'll be those days that are mellow. Then others that are borderline crazy. Today was one of them.
It started with Phoenix waking me up early. "Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey." He said and ripped the blanket off me.
"Bacon?" I lifted my head and said in my groggy state.
"Sorry, no bacon." He answered. I groaned and fell back onto the pillow. "Come on, we have some patrolling to do."
"Why did I sign up for this?" I sighed and got out of bed. I got ready and clipped my pin to my chest. Looking in the mirror, the star symbol stared at me. One day, I'd be the chief of the tribe. I'd be the boss and people would look at me for answers. There was so much pressure... Phoenix came in and kissed my temple. For now though, I could enjoy what life has given me.
The tribe was quiet. The only sounds being Phoenix's rambling about rain, the river rushing, and leaves rustling. Occasionally, I would pick up on birds chirping. "Like, where the heck is all this rain coming from?" Phoenix ranted as we went to the bridge, our patrol station. "I get that it's pretty to watch, but come on! We don't need that much rain."
"You're just bitter because it makes you weak." I said to provoke him a bit. It was funny when he got all grumpy. Adorable too.
"You would be too if you had fire in your blood and had to walk around in rainy weather." He grumbled as we stepped onto the bridge. Something came over me as I leaned forward in my shoes and lightly kissed him. Little butterflies exploded in me as I leaned back and smiled at him. "What was that for?" Phoenix asked with a happy grin on his face.
"I don't know." I shrugged. "I felt like doing it." I turned and rested my forearms on the bridge railing. The water shimmered it's colours underneath. I looked around before my eyes stopped on someone. It was the girl from Bear's oldest scout training class. The one who knocked down one of his dummies that were charmed to be near impossible to knock down. The one with stars in her eyes. Stella. I waved her over to see why she was out so early in the morning.
Stella came over with her hands in her pockets and a big, white bandage on her cheek. She had this look to her. With her long, wavy, black hair and eyes like the night sky. She had something that others didn't. Something that would make you stop and look for a bit. To try and figure out what was up with her. How she had so much reason to give up on the world but never did. I've heard the stories Bear has to tell. She's something special...
"Morning, Stella." I said and stepped back from the railing. "What are you doing walking around so early?" Something had happened. I've done the same as her whenever I feel like I need to clear my head.
"I don't know. I had a rough night." She said and rubbed her arm.
"Oh no, what happened?" Stella lived in one of the new houses. With Omega, Charlie, and two others. A scout and his brother.
"Did Charlie keep you up with his snoring?" Phoenix said, standing beside me.
"Not exactly. Alex said some things and... All I want to do is make him proud." She said in a soft voice. The poor girl...
"Stella..." I took a step and wrapped my arms around her. She stiffened before Phoenix joined.
"You two are like freezing and burning." She said and we let go. It was true. Phoenix and I were like hot and cold. Ever since what happened two years ago, I've been colder to touch. Lacey says it's the Wolf in me. Whenever I touch a Wolf, they do seem to be colder which would make sense if I was as well.
