*Kylo Rens pov

Memories swirled everywhere, so I grabbed to one closest to me. Next time I'll have to teach her how to limit the available ones.

I recognise this one. I'm in it.

She was only seven, and I was eleven.

This was back when we were best friends at the jedi academy that Luke using to train kids that were sensitive to the force. Probably about eleven years ago.

In this particular memory, she had convinced me to have a tea party with her. We were all dressed up with feathers and hats, and she had excessive make up on. I still can't believe she talked me into that.

We talk. She insists that we talk "properly" and hold out our pinkies when lifting our imaginary teacups.

"How are you enjoying your tea, Sir Ben." she said with a giggle.

I sigh. "Yes, madam Rey. I am enjoying it very much."

She giggles again.

I smile at her.

She knows I would do this for her and only her.

"Were the boys and girls mean to you again today?" she asks her smile falling.

"No." I say. But she knows I'm lying, even at her young age.

"Why don't you tell Master Luke?" she asks.

"I have. He won't listen to though. He says 'not to worry' and 'it'll pass'. It's been four years, Rey. Four years since my parents gave me away." my voice brakes.

"No they didn't. They did what they thought was best for you, Ben."

I laugh unbelieving.

"Besides," she says taking another sip from her teacup. "I'm your friend. So you don't have to be lonely. No matter what though. Remember our promise."

"I know." I smile.

"Say it." she prompted.

"I, Ben Solo, vow to never ever turn to the dark side. And to stay with my best friend Rey-" I wiggled my eyebrows and she giggled. "-forever."

"I believe and accept your pact, Sir Ben. And I will be your best friend as well." she hugged me.

I pull from her head.

She didn't even attempt to stop me from seeing it.

"Why did you show me that?" I yell at her. "Why?" I stomp over to the far wall and slash at it with my saber, sparks flying everywhere. I thought of what Snoke would have done. He would have had me punished to the point that I would beg for forgiveness. For the pain to end. No. I wouldn't do that to Rey.

After cooling down, I walk back over to her.

"Okay, lesson change. How to read someone else's memories is an important topic. You wanted to know why? Well enjoy yourself in the heck I experienced!" I spat, widening my arms as if to embrace the weakness I was about to show her.

She closes her eyes and concentrated, I felt her grab the memory I was shoving at her, and we were swept into my past.

*Reys pov

He's walking down the hall. Head bowed, trying to attract as little attention as possible. It was before he was Kylo Ren at the jedi academy. Back when he was Ben Solo. Snickers and laughs come from both sides aimed at him. Whispers and pointing follow him wherever he goes.

On this particular day, he walks out of the final class of the day and walks up a grassy hill on Naboo to meet me at our meeting place. He sits on a rock, knowing that it will be an hour until I get out of classes, to wait.

Not twenty minutes into his wait, a mob of school kids, boys and girls, swarm up the hill towards him. At first, he's surprised, but then fear settles in. By the time he gets up to run, they're already on him.

Two of the boys tackle him to the ground and the rest of them take turns throwing kicks, punches and insults. He knew that he was stronger than both of the strongest of them combined, but knew that hurting them would get him no where.

By the time they left, be was bloody and bruised. Tears were streaming down his face as he limped back to his room, each step bringing a new wave of agony.

That night he dreamt.

There was a man, offering him refuge from the bullies and his own executive training. He agreed and slowly began learning of the dark, but not knowing that it was the dark, until he was in too deep. When Snoke told him this, he felt as if he was torn apart because of the promise he had made to his only friend, who he loved.

Snoke threatened him into doing so many things that he didn't want to do. After time, however, he was able to train himself to shut off the guilt and replace it with anger. Snoke's punishments were harsh for his failure for even the most little things. He wanted several times to go back to the light, but Snoke told him that he was in to deep, and even if he did, no one would want him. Better to rule by fear and be needed to accomplish something evil, than to be unwanted and cast out for being good like he was those early years of his life at the jedi academy.
