Two updates in one day?! What is this sorcery?
In all honesty there is (two) reasons why I updated early:
1. I wanted to share my finished drawing of Emiko (In media... lol I'm no professional so don't laugh at it okay?)
And the second reason? You'll see... *insert devious plot twist smirk here* I'm about to mess with you reallllll good.
~Chapter Twenty-Six~
Winter gripped the side of the tree as her vision sways, her eye widened just enough for the always aware Ja'far to notice. She gulped harshly as she struggled to make sense of what she just saw.
Red lightning. Air thick with electricity. Eien's eyes showing a storm.
"That's impossible. He..." Her mind flashes back to the image over and over. "The only way to have red lighting is if..." The words get stuck in her throat, her nails digging into the soft part of the tree creating thin gouges. "Impossible." Is all she whispers again feeling light headedness creep up on her.
"Winter, I know it may be hard to realize that there's another Ookami bu-" Jafar's words were cut off with a sharp tone, serrated to perfection.
"That's not it!" Her voice raises slightly and Ja'far frowns lightly in worry. "It's the red lightning baka! Think, think really hard Ja'far. The color of lightning you draw down from the heavens is either a mix of your parents or representative of one parent. And there was only one person in this entire village that had red lightning." His own face pales and he stares at her.
"There must be a mistake then..."
"The lightning color is never a mistake."
Winter takes deep breathes and straightens up, her eye hardening. "I'm going to find Eien." She doesn't wait for a response before hurtling into the nearby woods as thoughts clashed with one another. Her feet pounded relentlessly against the ground as she sprinted towards the tinted red chakra she could feel.
She spun around midair and landed in a crouch right in front of a startled Eien who'd been walking. He lets out a surprised squeak and tumbles backwards, barely regaining his balance. He felt his heart sink at the sight of Winter, immediately casting gaze anywhere but her face. He found himself staring down at her shoes... how do her shoes stay so clean? He wondered briefly as he looked at the spotless black sandals. "Tell me Eien you said you knew who your mother was... who is your father?"
He shifts and rubs the side of his arm nervously. "M-My father?"
"Don't make me repeat myself."
He had to admit, he nearly collapsed from the venom clear in her words. He cowered back and whispers a name. "Louder." He repeated it... still not able to be heard. "LOUDER DAMMIT!"
"Ah! MyfatherisSubarashiiOokami." He rushes the two words out, but Winter still flinches back as she hears the name. She stands up and starts shaking her head back and forth. She takes a few steps backwards and Eien casts a glance at her. He swallows thickly as he notices the pale expression, the white lightning flashes across her eye. He notices the way her jaw clenches as she struggles to accept the words.
"You're lying." Her voice breaks slightly. "Tell me you're lying. Eien please tell me you're lying. Or that this is a sick joke." Her lips press together into a thin line.
"I don't lie." He whispers, his hand straying to his ninja pouch making her muscles tense automatically. He doesn't pull out any weapons, instead pulling out a worn down blue journal that Winter immediately recognized. "I... I've been working up the courage to give this to you... my mother gave it to me... my real mother not the adopted mother I told you about before." He tosses it towards her and Winter catches it with the tips of her fingers. Her hands shake as she opens the first page.
