Sirius had never been really keen on books. He could not focus completely on a book to learn a new spell unless someone was breathing down his neck. Of course it only took him a few minutes to be able to perform the spell; but for him to understand what he was doing... that took longer.

So when he performed the banishing spell on his sister he did not understand the significance of having a physical object to banish her with. He only knew that the spell would send her to a place only he could retrieve fer from.

If he had read on he would have understood that the object would be the location he would send her too. If Sirius had used his common sense, he would have known better than to use a spell out of a book entitled "Experimental Dark Arts."

The spell Sirius performed moved a person through time and space placing them on or near the object that they are sent by. The object was essential in bringing the person back... if they lived, which was rare.

Kat was dropped down aboard the very real Flying Dutchman some time during the late seventeen hundreds, but before the American Revolution. No, another war was occurring at this time. A supernatural battle to make a claim on the seas.

The night was pitch black as Kat fell backwards from her brother's push. Her head was spinning as she got up on her hands and knees. She gasped when she felt the cold wet wood under her fingers. She gazed around in horror as she took in the barnicle encrusted ship.

After a moment she took hold of the railing and pulled herself up. She gazed out at sea and discovered that she was at the stern of the ship and it towed a second ship behind it. Wobbley legged, Kat began to move along the ship using the rail for support. She had just reached a set of barrels when she heard soft footsteps.

Her wand slid out of the concealed pouch attached to her right arm and she gripped it in her hand as she hid behind the barrels. Several Oriental men shuffled quietly off the side of the ship onto the stern deck. A woman and a Naval Officer followed the men.

"Quickly," the young British officer said. "Get to the ship."

The men quick like monkeys began to climb across the ropes to their own ship. Kat quickly realized that they were escaping prisoners, but until she knew more she decided to remain hidden until she better understood her situation.

"Do not go to Shipwreck Cove. Beckett knows of the meeting of the Brethren. I fear there may be a traitor among them." The officer said to the girl.

"It's too late to earn my forgiveness." She hissed at him through clinched teeth. Kat could tell this young woman was not like the scruffy sailors she was with. This woman had a crisp accent of a British woman of wealth.

"I had nothing to do with your father's death." The officer snapped back. Kat now feared the worst. "But that does not absolve me of my other sins." He muttered not looking at the woman.

The woman looked away out toward the second ship. She swayed her head haughty, angerly, and then said; "Come with us."

The officer looked up at her in surprise. Kat could see he was not expecting this offer. He would clearly be leaving behind a post for a cause, unknown to Kat, but apparently a cause he believed in.

"James," the woman begged as Kat almost flinched at the name. "Come with me."

"Who goes there?" Someone shouted from an upper deck. Kat hunkered down farther in her hiding place as she looked for the owner of the voice. James pulled the woman behind him. Shielding her from any blow she might receive as he too located the voice and pulled his sword.

"Go. I will follow." The officer said in a panicky voice.

This time, Kat observed, the woman studied his face. "You're lying." She concluded.
