Kat and James' love only grew stronger through the years. Eventually James came to fully trust in magic and they sold their cottage and bought a small ship. For years they sailed the oceans making port only on a whim. They were free, cut from all ties that bind; that was until one day about ten years after they had met.
They had returned to the Caribbean. The place had a wonderous attraction for them. On this particular afternoon James had been at the helm of the ship allowing Kat to recline on deck in a modern bathing suit instead of magically guiding the ship. James enjoyed looking down at her in the tiny red cloth that covered only the most delicious parts of her body.
He had been so focused on her body he did not see an approaching ship until it was too late. James cursed aloud, which he did not do often in front of his wife, when he spotted a hauntingly familiar ship with black sails. "Ship ahoy." He called to her. "This is not good."
Dropping anchor he hurried down to Kat who had changed her clothes. She was now wearing a typical dress of the time. "Is it an American ship?" She asked.
"Worse," James said. "It is the Black Pearl."
Kat froze. Half of her wanted to run like a rabbit; but the other half of her wanted so much to meet real pirates. James would not be pleased with that second half. "What should we do? They have already seen the ship."
"What can we do?" James returned. "What can you do?"
"You can't be recognized." Kat slid her wand out of her sleeve and held it up. "I have to change you." She whined.
James kissed her passionately. "I will always be under the disguise." He said.
Kat glanced at the pearl and then began to change her husband. His blue gray eyes became a murky brown. The shoulder length brown hair became a short messy black. Suddenly she realized what she was doing. She had turned her James into James Potter. When she realized what she had done she stumbled back.
"What?" James asked grabbing her arms to support her.
"I-I... Let's talk about it later. Just keep your voice lighter."
"All right," he said still concerned. "Lord, I hope it is not Jack. Of course Barbossa is not any better..." James said changing the subject. Every moment that passed brought the Pearl closer.
James was surprised when the Black Pearl pulled alongside their smaller ship The Navigator, to see Will Turner captining the ship with Elizabeth a young boy and... Kat recognized the older man herself. He looked much more human now, but she could not mistake the man who had murdered James.
Her hand slipped to the sword that nearly always was attached to James' belt. She had kept the sword she had pulled out of James' body and the night after their wedding night she had transfigured it into the beautiful sword James carried now.
James put his hand over hers and squeezed. She looked up at him before looking back at the black sailed ship. Elizabeth was waving at her frantically apparently glad to see another female.
"Ahoy there," shouted Will. "Permission to board?" He asked dropping anchor.
"You have it if you are friend." James replied. "This is the Black Pearl is it not?"
"Aye," Will confirmed. "To both of your questions. We are the Turners." He said as they walked a plank to join Kat and James on their ship. James saw Joshamee Gibbs on board the Pearl as well as several other pirates. "My name is William. This is my wife Elizabeth, our son Will and my father Bill..."
"They call me Bootstrap." The eldest Turner said with a laugh.
James glanced between the ship and the family before him. He looked at each of them. His feelings toward Will and Elizabeth had changed greatly. Her alluring charm and beauty had faded. Kat was far more beautiful than Elizabeth. He looked down at her to introduce her to find a frown marring her face.
"Isn't the Black Pearl a pirate ship." She asked almost crisply.
"Darling," James said softly. "If they were pirates don't you think they would have demanded for our valuables by now?"
Kat took the warning. Her husband would always have a place for Elizabeth in his heart. "I am sorry." Kat said bowing her head. "That is no way for a Potter to act." 'Oh the irony.' She thought to herself.
"I am James Potter and this is my wife..."
"Lily." Kat finished for him. James kissed the top of her head acknowledging her choice in names and their significance.
"We are adventurers." James said with a laugh. "I suppose you are as well."
Will laughed too. "As a matter of fact we sort of are. We are looking for someone specific; Captain Jack Sparrow? Have you seen him?"
"No," James said. "We have not seen anyone for a very long time."
"You sail this ship by yourself." The boy asked surprised.
James smiled down at the boy and a shadow of longing passed his face. If only he had a son to teach the art of sailing to. "It is a small ship," he said. "And," he added in a loud stage whisper placing a hand beside his mouth. "My wife happens to be a magnificent sailor."
Kat blushed as James grinned at her. His compliment made her feel better. She was struggling with Elizabeth's presence and James' appearence. "What is the name of the vessel Captain Sparrow is sailing." She asked.
The Turners looked at one another. Will seemed to nod to himself. "He and another pirate Hector Barbossa comendeered my ship... The Flying Dutchman."
Kat gripped James' hand and laughed for fear she might give herself away. "The Flying Dutchman? Davey Jones' spectral ship?"
"Please," begged Elizabeth. "Let us explain."
Kat glanced at James. "Yes," he said seriously. "Let us go to your ship. I am afraid our cabin is in disarray."
Kat locked eyes with Elizabeth who was grinning at her. True, they had made a mess in the cabin with the previous nights lovemaking; but Kat has also could not live without her magic and there were several things in the cabin that were strange. Especially the enchanted ceiling that matched the outside sky.
Everyone moved to the Pearl and down to the captain's cabin. There Will, Elizabeth, Bootstrap and Gibbs finished the tale of the pirates of the Caribbean. Kat was utterly fascinated that these muggles were so accepting of the supernatural. James was surprised that Jack Sparrow was still alive.
The crew served them a meal as the Turners explained their situation. Kat picked at her food while James ate heartily. On their ship Kat searved proper meals, it was clear to her that James sometimes missed the life of the average sailor.
Kat was more interested in the story. Elizabeth started the story all the way back to their original crossing from England. Kat watched her husband as Elisabeth talked about him with pride and sorrow in her voice. Kat could see the joy in James' eyes to know Elizabeth cared on some level.
He squeezed her hand when Elizabeth explained how she got to Pirates Cove and the sacrifice James had made. "His death was a turning point in the war. I might have never made it to the meeting or have had the courage to suggest we fight if he had not chose our side and to let me go."
Kat squeezed James' hand and ran her thumb across the back of it. They were right to disappear. If he had survived there might have been drastic consequences.
