"Come in," James called softly from next to the door.

Lily slowly opened the door and did drying spells upon herself and the Maruaders as they entered the room. Jack slipped out as soon as he could. The lamps were down low, but they could clearly see all around the room.

Kat was sleeping deeply curled on her side hugging her pillow tightly. James was standing by the door grinning at them. In his arms was his daughter asleep as deeply as her mother.

"Aw," Lily whispered coming close and putting her hand on James' arm to look at the baby. "A girl?" She asked.

James nodded and shifted so Lily could see better. "Ember Lily." He said softly.

Lily was nearly in tears. "May I?" She asked holding her arms out so they made a loop. "It has been so long since I held a tiny baby."

James obliged. He slowly lowered Ember into Lily's arms. For Lily it was like riding a bike. She rocked the disturbed baby until she slipped back into dreamland.  Prongs transfigured the desk chair into a rocking chair and Lily sat down. The Marauders gathered around her to gaze at the baby.

"She is absolutely precious." Lily whispered.

James beamed even more. "Everything went rather smoothly." He said. "Kat broke Jack's hand, but she fixed all that after she fed Ember. She has already been changed."

"My," Lily said impressed. "I don't think James ever changed a diaper."

"Not likely to change," Remus said chuckling.

"Maybe Harry should have a little brother or sister." Lily retorted. She had been bitten by the mother bug. "After all we did not get a chance before..." She trailed off.

The room fell quiet for several moments again. Everyone watched Ember sleep. James finally broke the silence.

"What happened on deck?"

"Oh," Prongs said offhandishly. "Sirius fell overboard and we had to rescue him. No big deal. We did find out why we couldn't get home. We will be England bound in the morning after we repair the engine."

"Why couldn't we go home?" James asked.

"It was nothing much." Prongs insisted.

"May I hold her next?" Sirius asked distracting James who nodded.

Lily stood up and placed Ember in her uncle's arms. Sirius took her place in the chair. Lily yawned loudly and said goodnight. As she pulled Prongs out of the room she promised to check on Kat again in the morning.

"Hello, Ember," Sirius said softly brushing her peach fuzz hair softly with his fingers. "I'm your Uncle Sirius. You are going to grow up to be a spoiled princess if I can help it." He said smiling at her.

Ember made a face at him as she woke again.

"Look shes trying to smile at me." Sirius said excitedly.

"It is probably gas." Remus said with a roll of his eyes. Ember began to cry earnestly.

"What did I do?" Sirius asked looking up at James who came to take the baby.

"Nothing, Sirius," Remus said softly. "Let's leave James to take care of Ember. We need to drop anchor and get some rest ourselves. Goodnight, James, and congratulations."

"Thank you, Remus," he replied.

When the men had left the room, James set to pacifying Ember. He held her, changed her, gave her one of the binkies Lily had created and tried rocking her. Finally he woke his wife.
