While Kat, James and Jack brought Ember into the world the Marauders and Lily had discovered the source of the magic that was preventing them from going home. Sirius had been at the helm when the storm began, with what they could do with their magic everything below deck was secured, but it was not the same above deck. Sirius had been swept over by the pounding waves. Remus rushed out on deck to help Sirius while Prongs went for Lily.

With Lily's help they ran about the deck shouting into the wind for Sirius. They tried summoning him, but with no luck. Suddenly his body seemed to be propelled upward out of the water and landed on the deck with a loud thud. His body was followed by another this time the body was that of a half man half fish; a merman.

The merman propped himself up on a staff that he had been carrying. He was youthful, very muscular with shoulder length white blond hair and watery blue eyes. His skin was a very pale green.

"We have done as you requested." He said slowly and deeply. He pointed to Sirius who had sat up coughing and spitting up sea water. The raging storm had suddenly died down at the presence of the strange merman.

Lily ran to him and helped him sit up. She examined him for any injuries he might have received from his fall on deck. He coughed some more grasped her arm as he tried to breathe.

He was attempting to scold Lily for leaving his sister. He could not get it out. His chest burned from the salty sea water that had rushed in and out of his lungs. Finally he allowed her to treat his injuries.

While this was going on, the merman watched. "We have rescued you, just as you requested. We will leave you to your own devices now."

"Wait," Prongs said holding out his hand. He had so many questions and he knew Remus had even more. He was going to ask the important question first. "Do you mean to tell me that you have kept us stranded out here?"

The merman looked slowly at James. "Yes. My daughter Alexandra found your note." He handed Prongs a shell with scratched into it.

"Help me! Kat Black." Prongs read aloud. "Kat wrote this note." He handed it to Remus.

"And you have been keeping us trapped on this ship and unable to sail home because of this shell?" Remus asked. "She had already been rescued."

"Yes," the merman said carefully.

"Then why trap us here?" Prongs demanded. "We had her in hand and she is pregnant, having the baby as we speak! She would have done better in a hospital!"

The merman showed no fliker of emotion. "My daughter is compelled to rescue the one connected with the shell. She cannot stop. It is the curse I placed upon her by being her father."

"What do you mean? How do you speak English so well?" Demanded Remus.

"I speak it so well because I am the ruler of the seas. I am Triton. And at one time... I fell in love with a human woman. She had one of my many daughters... but the child... the child was of my kind. She is compelled to help you humans. I cannot stop her urges so I had to keep you with us until she could complete her mission."

"You speak of us as if we were nothing to you." Lily whispered.

Triton turned toward her. "You are nothing to me. You, wizards, have stolen my people from the sea; placed them in ponds and lakes, like pets. They have mutated into strange beings. That beautiful human woman drowned herself and tried to drown my daughter. You have no respect for other creatures. You think you are superior."

"I happen to be a werewolf." Remus snapped. Sure it was not true now, but how would the sea king know that.

"Monsters do not count," the king sniffed.

"Mons..." Remus began. His rage was too great to finish his word. The shell in his hand snapped in half. Prongs put a hand on his shoulder.

"Things have been changing in our world." He said. "We are trying for equality..."

"Equality will not repair damage done one thousand years ago. Even your monsters agree with that. What do you know of the vampire societies? Nothing! They are as frighten of you as you have made them frightening. No," Triton said slowly. "There will be no equality."

"But," Prongs tried again.

Triton cut him off. "I am releasing you from my power. Your magic is now as unlimited as your abilities. You may go wherever the wind may take you."

"You could not have helped us by getting us home." Sirius gasped.

Triton glared at him for the first time. "No, you could get home on your own." Triton moved to the railing and paused. "I thought dumping bodies into my world had ended years ago."

"Barbossa deserved a proper burial at sea." Remus said with a snap. "We gave him the burial he would have wanted."

"Yes," Triton said with a sneer in his voice. "The creatures of my kingdom will enjoy his... company."

Without another word the sea king slipped back into the ocean. The marauders and Lily hurried to the rails to watch him. They only saw a dark shadow in the already black water. Then something broke the surface. It seemed to wave before disappearing as well.

For several minutes they all just stood there. Finally Prongs turned to Sirius. "What happened down there?"

Sirius was quiet for several moments more. "When I fell over the side of the ship... I-I thought I was dying. Then I noticed the light was coming from this... woman. Triton's daughter I suppose...

"She was beautiful. Her long blond hair swirled around her naked body as she approached me. She took me by the shoulders and pressed her lips to mine. Her tongue darted into my mouth and she... sucked all the water from my lungs. Then she replaced it with air."

Sirius stopped there staring down into the waves.

"You were down there a long time." Prongs said.

"That is all I remember!" Sirius snapped. "I was about to die! The next thing I knew I was thrown back on deck. You can remember the rest I suppose."

"Sorry I asked." Prongs retorted. "I was worried about you. That was why I got Lily."

Lily suddenly gave a squeak. "Kat!"

They all jumped and rushed below deck. Each of them repremanding themselves for forgetting about Kat and the baby. Lily removed her spell and gently knocked on the door.
