Kat woke up the next morning feeling warm and happy. She was resting her head on James' chest as it rose and fell slowly in deep sleep. She shifted in bed following the unspoken rule they had not to get out of bed without one another. The sheets felt different. Kat opened her eyes and realized she was in her room at Grimmiald Place.

She sat up and screamed.

James woke with a start. "Darling," he said putting his arms around her. "What is it?"

Kat turned in his arms sobbing. "I thought it was all a dream!" She sobbed. "I thought you were a wonderful dream and I had woken back up into this nightmare. Oh James."

"Shh," he whispered to her. "I am here. I will always be here." He stroked her long dark hair. "I love you, my darling."

Kat nodded as if reassuring herself everything was real. "I love you so much, James. I don't know what I would do without you." Secretly she had always worried about James' muggle mortality. As a witch she genuinely lived longer than muggles. No she could not think about his death. Love was stronger than that.

James did not reply. He just continued to stroke her hair. After a few more minutes he pulled away. "Come, let us get dressed and we can have some breakfast."

They went through their special morning routine. Kat found some nice muggle clothes for both James and herself. She felt awkward wearing robes when he was not. She pulled his hair in his black ribbon and he brushed her hair until it was silky smooth. They made up the bed, which Kat had cleaned with her wand, together.

Arm in arm they went out onto the landing. Just as they closed their door the door to Kat's parents room opened. A small witch with thick brown hair and watery blue eyes slipped out. She looked as if she were crying.

"Are you okay, sweety." Kat asked pulling away from her husband to talk to the girl. She reached out to the girl who practically fell into her arms. "What did he do?"

"He said he did not need me today, like I was some kind of... of..." She sobbed.

"It's okay," Kat said falling into a pattern she knew well. "Come on down to the kitchen. You can have breakfast with my husband and me so you can let it all out."

The girl nodded slightly and Kat led her down the stairs. James followed them glaring at the door the girl came out of. He could not tolerate the mistreatement of any woman even if she was what she pretended no to be.

They ate breakfast in the kitchen and James watched as his wife skillfully guided the girl into thinking that she was much better than Sirius. Kat convinced her that the girl was too good to even bother with trying to please Sirius or any other man hanging out in a bar.

"Thank you so much," the girl said hugging Kat at the fireplace. "I think I will wait for the right man. Like you and your husband. You two must really love each other." She sighed and disappeared through the fireplace.

"Katherine," James said solumnly. "I am disappointed in your brother."

Kat sighed and sat down at the table and clasped her hands together. "I know." She said looking ashamed. "Sirius has always been this way. I know you do not like it. Maybe we should leave."

"Leave?" Sirius muttered entering the kitchen in nothing but his boxers. He rubbed his eyes and waved his wand to make tea. "Where are you heading."

Kat watched as James pressed his lips together. She had never seen him angry. Annoyed, yes, but never angry. "Sirius, we cannot live here with you. I woke up in terror this morning just being in this house..."

Her brother scoffed. Kat looked to James. His face had not changed as he stared at Sirius with his arms crossed.

Suddenly Kat pounded her fists on the table. "You ruined that girl, Sirius. She was heartbroken and I comforted her just like I did in school. I lost all of my friends to your... ways. I slept on our couch in the apartment and made those girls tea and and it's just not going to work."
