Awkward...

They’d been sitting, having a staredown for about an hour. Neither beast nor boy were getting anywhere and patience was thin.

“Okay beasty” Percy said, crossing his arms. “Im gonna get on you wether you like it or not.”

He went to her side, taking a deep breath holding his palms an inch away from the swirling darkness of her fur.

“Good beasty” he murmured, electricity running through his limbs. Nalia shivered, her body tensing from the closeness. Percy used sudden movements, digging his fingers into her side to lift himself up, climbing awkwardly onto her back. Nalia barked, the high pitched screech filling the chasm and rattling Percy’s brain.

“MA!” he yelled over the noise, his eyes and teeth tight shut. Nalia ran.

Not like a jog or a run, like a full out shadow sprint. Percy’s eyes watered, his heart hammering in his chest as he hung on for dear life; images of landscapes flying past him.

He had no idea where they were going, hopefully Nalia did. She seemed to have some sense of direction from the way she twisted down the tunnels.

Was it just his imagination, or was the wind blowing harder against him than it should’ve?

Skei’s winds were easier to track now that he wasn’t trying to hide stuff from Kaylee. She kept wondering why Annabeth had been separated from Percy but nothing was coming up. It didn’t help that Jasons hand kept brushing against hers. He’d been smiling at her more, trying to get her to open up. After he’d kissed her, he’d wanted more, but she’d done the opposite. Instead of opening up, she’d shut down and cut him off. Naea didn’t like it, she would frown at Kaylee’s one word answers, her stubborn pout coming out.

“Im tired” she complained, clinging to Jasons hand.

“Alright, sweetheart, we’ll stop soon” he said. Naea reached out her other hand to grab Kaylee’s. The warrior felt her heart soften at the touch, no matter how annoying the girl could be, she was still a friend.

“Here” Kaylee said when they reached a blue room. Every wall was some sort of blue stone, it was cramped but it looked solid. Naea was quick to unroll her sleepingbag and jump in, pretending to fall asleep. Jason and Kaylee looked at her with annoyance as she pretended to be out…her body pressed close to the edge of the room. She knew that she always slept in the middle, between Kaylee and Jason; now they would either have to sleep next to each other or separate. Kaylee was going for option two when she started setting up her blankets on the opposite side of the room.

“What are you doing?” Jason asked, watching her unfold her stuff and settle down.

“Sleeping?” Kaylee asked, raising her eyebrows at him. Jason stood there in the center of the room, his brow pulled together in confusion as he looked between the girls.

“Look, I know what you’re doing” Jason said, crossing his arms. “You go keep Naea warm and I’ll sleep by myself.”

“Just go” Kaylee grumbled, snuggling farther into her blankets. “I’ll be fine.”

There was silence while she scrunched her face, hoping beyond hope that she would hear his footsteps moving away from her. She knew Aphrodite had a cruel sense of humor when, instead, she heard him say, “You leave me no choice.” And came to lay next to her.

“What are you doing?” Kaylee demanded, sitting up.

“I know that you’ll move over there to warm up Naea” Jason said. “I just have to wait, because Im not gonna stay over there and watch you freeze.”

“I wont freeze!” Kaylee groaned, her head falling in her hands. “Just…just go!”

“No” Jason said, pretending to get comfortable where he was even though he hadn’t even undone his sleeping bag. Kaylee glared at his stupid attractive face, his smile evident from the confidence that he’d won.

His eyes opened while she was looking at him so she turned to look away, glaring at the wall. He sat up next to her, a gentle finger pulling her face back to face him.

“Kaylee” he whispered, running the finger along her cheek. Her lips parted unconsciously as she stared into his electric blue eyes; eyes that followed the movement, zeroing in on her lips.

He started leaning in, a hand wrapping around her waist to pull her against him. Her breath caught in her throat while she tried to think, nothing coming to mind except how full his lips looked.
