“You were supposed to watch her!” Annabeth practically screamed from the front of the room. Kaylee cowered in the corner with Hazel standing protectively above her. After Kaylee had exited the clearing, Annabeth had a team surround her and shoot her with some form of electricity that stunned her for enough time to be strapped together. She could have gotten out but she’d already seen the camp and it didn’t seem to matter.

“I did watch her!”

“From where?” Annabeth asked sarcastically. “Your beaten butt sitting on the ground? I had to go get her after the mess you made. I now have the entire campus asking me about the new girl at camp.”

“She doesn’t listen!” Markus defended.

“That’s why she’s dangerous” Annabeth concluded. “She’s not some pet you can tame. She’s a brutal rebel with serious powers and she knows that she’s in charge. She has to go.”

There weren’t many things in this world that frightened Kaylee. She could count the amount of times she’d been absolutely terrified on one hand. Annabeth didn’t terrify her, but the eyes of her mother did. Spasms continued to roll down her back uncontrollably as Annabeth motioned with furious hands towards her scrunched figure.

“She’s not dangerous!” Hazel suddenly shouted, green flushed her cheeks as her small hands balled into fists. Both of the leaders stopped to look at the tree nymph. Hazel’s shoulders dropped slightly when all the attention fell on her but Kaylee was proud, she was standing up for herself…wait, no. For Kaylee. Someone was standing up for her, someone was trying to take care of her?

“Hazel” Annabeth said quietly. “Has she said anything to you?”

“Well” Hazel looked back at Kaylee who half smiled at her. “no…but-“

“has she given you any reason to trust her?” Annabeth demanded.

“She hasn’t given us any reason not to!” Hazel tried to gain some ground. “We get all kinds of troubled demigods in here. Why is she any different? You weren’t so forgiving when you first got her, Annabeth.”

Annabeth was silent as she observed the nymph, her stone grey eyes hard and cold.

“You win this time, nymph” Annabeth said. “But if she causes any more problems, shes out. For now, she’ll be under your responsibility.”

With one last glare at Markus, the defeated leader stalked out of the room.

“Thank you” Markus said quietly, looking at the floor, before he too walked out.

Hazel let out the breath she had been holding in before she turned to smile at Kaylee.

“Boy, we sure showed them, didn’t we, warrior” she said happily, helping Kaylee to her feet. Kaylee shrugged but smiled back, she liked Hazel.

“So Markus showed you around the grounds right?” Hazel asked. “He’s cute right? You learn about all the buildings?”

Kaylee gave Hazel a strange look before nodding.

“Alright then!” Hazel said. “Lets head to the pavilion.”

She grabbed Kaylees hand and led her out into the cold crips air towards the ampitheatre that was now filled with people…

“Don’t worry about them” Hazel waved off the stares of the campers as she led Kaylee to the nymphs table. Kaylee felt nervous with all of their eyes on her but she didn’t show it; she held her head high and looked right back into all of the confused gazes of the campers. They sat down at the table closest to the front and food suddenly appeared in front of Hazel. Kaylee almost fell out of her seat as she jumped away, one of her knives out.
