Nameless finished rubbing her knee and crossed her legs, leant back against the table leg, sitting her book on her lap.
She sighed. Josh stared between her flushed face and her irritated knee waiting for an answer. "Well?" he questioned, sitting down across from her, putting the surprisingly undamaged mug down.
Nameless looked at him, slightly embarrassed, "It's fine. Sensitive skin, plus it's a tickly spot. It's weird when people touch it."
"Oh." was all Josh could say.
"Mug, please." Nameless had moved on already, leaning forward. Josh handed her the mug.
"What's it for?" he questioned. Every nearby cocoa plant had been irradiated and there was only the rare expensive import so he assumed it couldn't be coffee. Tea was less rare because it didn't go off at all, but he didn't know anyone who drank any, plus milk and sugar were nonexistent now. Powdered hot chocolate, maybe?
"Stuff," was all she replied, until she added, "You're pretty curious."
"I like to know what's going on around me. Been like this since I used the CESP armed forces plants."
Nameless shrugged. "Well, if you're that curious I suppose I can show you." She got up and wandered out of the kitchen.
"You not going to eat?" Josh asked.
"I am," she replied.
"Then why...?" But she had already rounded the corner.
Josh stumbled up and quickly followed Nameless to an apartment just along the hall.
"Can I trust you keep this a secret?" Nameless asked.
"Yeah, I will." Josh said, squinting at the door in anticipation.
The door opened and Josh stepped inside and felt the tropical, humid heat through the doorway.
Plants. Living plants.
"Wow..." was all he could manage.
"I'm Kaitlyn, by the way, but call me Kate." said Nameless.
"Josh," said Josh. "Nice to meet you."
