Jaime and Daena sat at the high table with Cersei farther along it as well, being the Queen Regent. Daena smiled at Jaime, and he gave her a tight-lipped smile in return. "Well, now that we're married I suppose we should learn a bit about each other," Daena said, with a laugh. Her laugh was the kind that made people want to laugh with her, and it made Jaime smile. "You ask first. What do you wish to know Kingslayer?"
Normally he would have been angry that somebody had called him by that name, but he saw the mocking smile on her face, not like Cersei's had been, but jokingly inviting him to take the bait. "Well, my lady, why don't you just tell me about yourself? We have plenty of time," he said, putting joking emphasis on the my lady.
"I suppose we do have a lot of time, don't we," she said, with a twinkle in her eye. "Alright. My name is Daena and I am of the house Stormblood, but you know that. My family's keep is called Redcastle, and our colors are light blue and purple. My family stayed behind, but I have two older brothers named Dionel and Darus. My father is Lord Edwin Stormblood, and my lady mother was named Elayna, but she died when I was five years old." She stopped for a moment, gazing sadly downwards.
Jaime lifted her chin so that she gazed into his deep green eyes. He rubbed his thumb along her jaw. "Don't be too sad, my lady. I know what it feels like to lose a mother. My sweet sister blames our brother Tyrion and hates him for it. I didn't blame him before, but now I'm not so sure, after he killed our father. But that was my fault."
"How could it possibly be your fault?"
"There are things nobody knows, my lady. And some things must remain hidden. Until the right time at least. And perhaps there will be a right time to say why. But perhaps not." There are some things that nobody can know. Not even Cersei. Not many, but some. It seems to be more and more things she cannot know recently..."Anyway, let's get on to some lighter talk. What do you wish to ask me?"
"Well, I was wondering what your sister was talking about before when she was speaking of what you two spoke of earlier."
So much for lighter talk, Jaime thought. "Oh, that was nothing. I've never been married before, and she was just worried about how much this would change things." More than you know.
"She's worried I won't treat you as well as you deserve, Kingslayer?" She said this mockingly. "Well I think we can remedy that." And with that, she leaned in and kissed him.
Jaime's heart started beating faster. And he kissed her back, placing one hand on the side of her neck and his golden hand on her back.
Cersei stared at them angrily, as Daena placed her hand in her twin's golden curls. How dare she?! Jaime is mine and he will never love anyone else. We were made for each other, and nothing can change that. She got up and walked out of the room just as the couple stopped kissing. She felt Jaime's gaze on her back, but didn't even deign to look. Let that teach him.
Daena followed Jaime's gaze and saw what he was looking at. I guess I may need to look into that rumor, she thought, with her heart sinking a little. But she put on a happy face and said,"Maybe she had too much wine, too depressed at not having you with her," with a laugh.
It pulled Jaime back to reality, and he felt bad for being distracted by Cersei while he had just been married. I wonder if Cersei felt this way when she had just been married to Robert. I can't help it though, we were made for each other. He gave a laugh back. "Perhaps you're right, my sister has had a thing for wine recently. Anything else you want to ask me?"
Daena's face grew serious. "Well, if it doesn't offend you my lord, I'd heard about your hand but I didn't know if it was true. Does it make things much harder?"
Jaime looked down at his hand, deciding what to say. "It does make things quite a bit harder; I'm almost completely incompetent with sword fighting now..."
"Well as long as you're still competent in other things I think it's alright," Daena said with a knowing smirk.
Jaime's eyes widened and he laughed loudly. I'm starting to like this feisty girl. "Well I suppose we'll have to find out, but I believe so," he said with an equally knowing smirk. And with that, he leaned in and kissed her again.
They spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing together. Just as Cersei came back in, someone shouted,"It's time for the bedding!" The men all grabbed Jaime and the women all grabbed Daena and pulled them separate ways. Cersei almost sat down, but then she decided to go along to see what she was up against.
--------------------
Jaime was lifted and carried out into the hallway where the men started stripping him as they went. "Hey, I can undress myself!"
"Kingslayer, no offense, but I don't think the girl is going to want to wait ten minutes while you try to undress with one hand," said his sworn brother Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers, Margaery's brother.
"Yes, I'm sure you would know, Loras," Jaime retorted, causing the boy to blush. "But alright, you guys can undress me, I suppose it's tradition."
And so they undressed him and carried him to the room.
--------------------
The ladies carried Daena away in the opposite direction and began to undress her as well, while making bawdy jokes. Cersei laughed along with the rest of them, while taking care to see her new good-sister in all her glory. When one woman wondered aloud whether one of the Kingslayer's swords was as good as the other, she thought to herself, one is better, especially now, but it isn't the one they know about. Finally, they got to the room and laid Daena in the bed, completely naked, to wait, and they left.
--------------------
A few moments after the women had left, the Kingslayer stepped in, the men having left him outside the door. "Well," he said with a smile,"now it's time to see if I'm competent."
And they did.
And he was.
