Shadows of the Mind

Part 10

Jane was going to kill someone.  And she meant it.  She woke up, and then was confused.  Why were there two copies of her lying next to her?  Why wasn't Alyssa in her head?  She sat up, and then immediately wished she hadn't.  She leaned over and vomited.   She sat up and wiped her mouth.  She tried to stand, but a sharp pain in her leg prevented her from doing so.  She looked down and saw the stupid needle that had caused all this.  She went to remove it, but then something stopped her.  She pushed it the rest of the way in, and her head cleared.  She yanked the needle out.  She stood up.  She ran around, did jumping jacks, did a back flip.  She felt fine.  No, fantastic!  She ran to the door.  

"I already tried; we're locked in.  I'm Ryan, by the way.  And all the Scientists leave us with is a freaking note.  Wow, good job."  Jane whirled around as Chad? stepped out of the shadows, holding a piece of paper.  She blushed and pointedly ignored the puddle her vomit had created.  He strode over to her and handed her the note with a "see if you can understand this crap" gesture.  This is what the note said:

Hey!  We hope you're enjoying your own personal bodies.  We're sorry that you can't keep them for long, though.... After 2 weeks, the bodies you are currently in will deteriorate, because, you know, they aren't the real thing (that's what the third you is for), and if you haven't converged by then, well let's just say that you will deteriorate, too!  And not just the fabricated personality, both of you.  This must not happen, so please converge by then.  After all of you have recovered from the separation serum, we will come collect you for training.

Jane shook her head to mean, "I got nothing out of it that you did."  Ryan sighed.  He ran his hands through his hair and asked, "What does it mean by training?"

"I don't know, but I think we're going to find out soon."

Ryan looked at her, confused.  She gestured to the corner.  Alyssa was waking up.
