"Leave when you can, little Lolita, leave your father and this wretched town. Leave your friends and leave your enemies. You won't miss it, I know you won't. Don't get trapped here in this town. don't be like me. I believe in you."
these words didn't mean much to me the night they stumbled out of my mothers mouth.
I didn't think this town was bad, I didn't see the issue.
but now I realize what she meant.
looking back on that night, I recall the cold rain pelting against the car windows.
I recall the words my father said to her before we left. I remember her sad eyes and her shaking hands.
she wanted more for me than this town could ever provide, she wanted me to escape her fate.
she didn't want me to be trapped in an unhappy relationship with a man who was only with her because he didn't have anywhere else to stay.I don't want to be like my mother.
but I wish I could've saved her from her fate.
