I woke up to the sun shining through the windows. I looked up to see James driving and Jake was still asleep. I sat up and stretched.
"We are almost to where your mom is.10 more minutes and we will be there." James said as he didn't take his eyes off the road.
"Oh okay. Great." I said as I leaned against the window.
"Listen Jersey, I'm sorry for all of this to happen. I never pictured meeting you this way." He said as he placed his hand on my knee. I sighed.
"I'm not mad at you. I didn't picture meeting you this way either. Just I still need to process this." I said as I pushed his hand off of me. He nodded his head.
"Yeah I understand." He said as he placed his hand on the steering wheel. I turned a bit so my head was resting the window looking at the signs that we drove by. James and I stayed silent for a bit while Jake was asleep. I closed my eyes scared of the reaction I was going to get from my mother.
"Where are we?" Jake said as he yawned slightly waking up. I opened my eyes a bit startled.
"We are almost to where your families are." James said looking at him through the rear view mirror.
"Oh okay. How much longer?" Jake asked as he leaned forward.
"Just 5 minutes. Once I turn down the next road all I have to do is find the cabin." James said as Jake nodded his head. He looked at me as I just moved a bit so I didn't have to look at him anymore. We turned down this road as James began to look out for the cabin. We turned down this long road that lead us to cabin. We pulled up to it as I watched my little brother and sister run out of the cabin towards us. I sighed as I got out of the car. They ran up to hug me as I picked them up.
"Jersey! We've missed you. Everything is different without you." My little brother Liam said as I hugged him.
"Oh Jersey. Thank god you are okay." I heard as I looked up to see Mike and my mom walking towards us. I got out of the grip of my little siblings as I hugged Mike and then I stared at my mother awkwardly.
"I'm so sor-" I began as my mom held up her hand shaking her head.
"I knew you would find out. It was bound to happen eventually." She said as I bit my lip. I hugged her tight. I looked over at Jake who was explaining thins to his parents. His parents didn't look impressed with me but they sort of understood. He smiled at me slightly as they began to walk away. The man from the agency was at the cabin and he was talking to James. I looked at my mom who nodded her head. I walked over to James and this man as I caught the last part of their conversation.
"James what exactly are you going to do? These men aren't going to stop until they kill everything you love and then they won't stop until they kill you." He said as James ran his hand through his hair.
"Lenny I don't know. I can't run away from them forever. I'm not putting my daughter in anymore danger." He said before I walked up straight behind Lenny as my dad finished his sentence. James stared at me as he motioned behind Lenny. He turned around to see me standing there.
"I'll just let you two talk." Lenny said walking away. I took a step forward.
"How much did you hear?" James asked as he scratched the back of his neck.
"I heard the last little bit. What did he mean by what are you going to do? Aren't you staying with me now?" I asked confused a bit. James avoided eye contact with me. "You are going to stay with me right? You aren't just going to leave me now, are you?" I asked looking at him trying to get his attention.
"Jersey, these men will find me. I can't put you in anymore danger. I can't stay with you or else that's putting not only you but everyone here in danger. I am so sorry Jersey. I didn't know this was going to happen." James explained as I shook my head backing away from him.
"I-I finally get to meet my dad and he leaves me. You can't just leave me after this. I feel complete with you. I feel like I found my missing piece. I can't just let you leave. I want you in my life. I need you in my life." I stated as I felt tears burning in my eyes. I stared at him angry and upset. He stared back looking hurt. He stepped forward as I ran into him. I locked my arms around him. I gripped his shirt as he gripped mine. After a few minutes of silence and a very tight hug I pulled away and looked him in the eyes, tears still fighting their way out. "Will I get to see you again?" I asked as he placed his hands on my shoulders. He looked up at Lenny and a few other men in suits. He bit his lip. "Do I get to see you again if you leave?" I asked again. He sighed.
I knew that wasn't a good sign. That was when I knew I was going to lose my dad.
"No. Once I leave I won't know where you are. Your family and Jake's family are being placed somewhere I won't know. I'm sorry Jersey, but I'm not good for you. I'm dangerous and I bring harm to everyone I love. I don't want to put you in anymore danger than I already have." He explained as I gripped his shirt shaking my head.
"I don't want you to go. I need you. I know you are trying to protect me and keep me safe but I won't feel safe with them. I feel safe with you. I just need to be with you." I said as I was trying to hold back tears. He hugged me tight.
"What do you want me to do? I can't bring you with me and I can't stay." He whispered to me as I pulled away. I looked up at him with narrow eyebrows.
"Why can't I go with you?" I asked him as his thumb wiped away the tears that had escaped my eyes.
"I don't think your mom would be okay with it. Besides your family needs you. Just like you need me." He said as I looked over at my family who were looking at James and I. My brother and sister waved at me as I waved slightly at them. "See they need you. I can't take you away from them again." He said as I stood there thinking about what I wanted to do.
"I guess your right. I can't really leave them." I said as I gave in. He sighed.
"We will figure it out. I won't leave you again. I promise." He said as I hugged him again. We heard a car begin to screech down the road as we turned a bit releasing our hug. My dad looked at Lenny.
"Everybody inside the cabin. Now."
