My name is Jersey Alexandria Marine. I am 17 years old and I am finally on my spring break but this year my spring break isn't ending the way I want it to. My mother and father decided to move me from my home town Detroit to Albuquerque. I have to leave all my friends behind which absolutely sucks but I guess having a new beginning is good. I have two other siblings all younger than me. My little brother Liam is 10 and my little sister Nina is 8. I was very protective of my siblings but I always felt as if I was alone in the house. I didn't really feel like I was their sister. I didn't even look like them. I mean they both had dirty blonde hair with blue eyes while I had brown hair with hazel eyes.
It was the first day of spring break and the final day I was here in Detroit. We were slowly starting to pack up all the boxes into moving trucks.
"Jersey!" My friends yelled as I placed a box into the moving truck. I began to walk over to them as they hugged me tight.
"I can't believe you are leaving today." My friend Dean said as he scratched his back awkwardly. I took a step back and looked at both of my friends.
"I know. I'm sorry." I said as I avoided eye contact with them. My friend Jenna hugged me tight.
"I really don't want you to go. It won't be the same without you." Jenna said as I hugged her back. Dean hugged both of us as I felt Jenna's breath hitch.
"Jersey, it's time to go." My mom called out as I turned slightly to wave back to her signalling I heard what she said. I watched as my two siblings along with my parents got into the car.
"I'm gonna miss you." Jenna and dean both said as they hugged me again. I hugged them back as I tried to hold in my tears. We broke apart.
"I'll miss you guys too. But I'll keep in touch. Okay? I've gotta go." I said as I slowly walked towards my car. I put my hand on the car door handle. I turned back one last time to wave bye to my friends before I opened the door and climbed into the seat. My mom turned to face me and placed a hand on my knee.
"Are you going to be okay?" She asked as I nodded my head slightly. She could tell I wasn't okay but she let it go. I pulled out my earphones and my phone to begin to listen to music. I rested my head against the window as the car drove off. My music was so loud I couldn't hear anything. I was so caught up in music I didn't notice the car pulled into a restaurant. I took out my earphones.
"Anybody hungry?" My dad said as my brother and sister got excited. I smiled slightly as I got out of the car. My mom wrapped her arm around me as we walked into the restaurant. When we found a booth to sit in we ordered our food. That was another thing that made me feel like I wasn't related to them at all. My siblings were allergic to almost everything and they were vegetarian like my father was. My mom loved eating salad but she couldn't live without meat. She didn't eat it a lot but I knew I was my mother's child. After a while of eating we piled back into the car and headed off to Albuquerque. I turned my music back on and ignored the world. I looked out the window at the amount of trees we were passing. I paused my music after a few minutes which felt like hours.
"How long exactly is Albuquerque from Detroit?" I asked as my mom leaned her seat back.
"It's about 24 hours. We will pull over and stay in a hotel later. Try and go to sleep for a bit." My mom said as she kissed my cheek then she turned away from me. I leaned back as I looked at my little brother who was trying to game on his iPad while my sister was watching a movie on the DVD player. I leaned my head against the window and played my music again. I felt my eyes get heavy as I felt myself drift off to sleep.---After what seemed like a few hours I opened my eyes but that was because my dad was shaking me awake.
"It's time to get up. We are at a hotel for the night." He said as I stretched getting out of the car. I followed my dad to our room which was right beside the pool.
"We brought in a bag with your swim suits so you can go swimming with your brother and sister." My mom said as my little brother and my sister came running out of the bathroom in their swim suits excited.
"Come on jersey! Come swimming with us!" My little brother said as he grabbed my hand.
"Yes I'll come swimming. Just giving me a bit to get ready okay?" I said as he jumped up and down excited. I grabbed my swimsuit out of the suitcase and went into the bathroom to get changed. I walked out of the bathroom and made my way into the pool area. I seen my little brother and sister up on the top of the water slide. I waved to them as I walked over to a pull out chair where I could sit and relax. I grabbed my phone and scrolled through Facebook. I heard footsteps walk over to me.
"Can I sit here?" I heard a male's voice ask. I looked up to see a fairly attractive young boy who looked like he was my age looking down at me. I put my phone down and nodded.
"Go for it." I said as I looked at my brother and sister who were jumping around in the pool.
"Are those your little sister and brother?" The boy asked. I nodded my head. "My name is Jake Eddison." He said holding out his hand. I sat up a bit as I shook his hand.
"My name is Jersey Marine." I said as our hands stayed holding.
"That's an interesting name." He said as I nodded my head. We began to talk and honestly I felt very comfortable with him. Turns out he lived in Albuquerque but he was heading to his grandparents place somewhere close. We decided to exchange numbers and he would text me when he's back from his grandparents place.
"Liam Wilson Jackson, Nina Tanya Jackson. Come on time to go to bed." My mom said as she came towards the pool area calling out for my little brother and sister. I had my mom's maiden name Marine or so she told me. She looked over at me while smirking at me. I nodded my head.
"It was really nice talking to you but I have to go." I said to Jake who looked sad like he didn't want me to go.
"Yeah okay. But before you go. Why do you have a different last name from your little brother and sister?" He asked me as he stood up. I looked at my mom to make sure she was far away.
"I guess when I was younger Jersey didn't exactly go very well with Jackson so they changed it to my mom's maiden name Marine." I said as I scratched the back of my neck.
"Okay that makes sense. Well have a good night and text me when you get up tomorrow." He said as I began to walk away. I smiled as I reached my room.
"Jersey's got a boyfriend that she'll never see again!" My little brother and sister said jumping on the bed. I smiled and blushed.
"Actually I will see him again." I said as I grabbed my clothes in one swift movement and walked into the bathroom.
"How will you see him again if we are moving to Albuquerque?" My dad asked through the door. I got out standing in front of him.
"He lives there. He is just going to visit his grandparents someplace for spring break." I explained as they nodded. I laid down on the cot I was sleeping on which was by the one bed.
"Someplace? You weren't listening?" My mom said as she laughed slightly.
"No I was listening just he was too cute I was focused more on his smile, eyes, hair and abs." I said as I smirked. She shook her head smiling.
"Alright kiddies bed time." My mom said as she tucked my little brother and sister into bed. "You good Jersey?" She asked as I plugged in my phone for it to charge.
"Yep I'm good." I replied as everybody said good night. I took out my phone and texted Jake.
