Chapter 18 – The Final Battle

The demon army charged with a war cry that echoed through the heavens. They surged forward, confident they would seize Heaven without resistance now that God had been absent for so long. Their goal was clear: take the throne and darken Heaven, then move on to conquer Earth.

The demons rammed into the angelic lines, and the battle erupted with fierce intensity. Chase swung his sword through five demons, flames trailing from the blade as he cut them down. He used an ice spell to freeze others before they could kill nearby angels, and his allies shattered the frozen demons with swift strikes.

But as he looked around, Chase saw they were losing ground, and the angelic numbers were dwindling rapidly. He shouted for Savior, the white dragon, who unleashed a torrent of fire that swept over the battlefield, scorching demon dogs and soldiers alike. The dragon's flames illuminated the two-headed dragon that had risen to join the demon ranks, a beast Chase had defeated earlier now somehow back in the fight.

But even with Savior's help, Chase counted only 140 angels left standing. His heart sank as a new horn blast sounded, signaling reinforcements for the demons. Another 2,000 demons, along with fresh waves of demon dogs and dragons, lined up, ready to deliver the final blow to Heaven's defenders.

"Get ready!" Chase called, standing at the front of the angelic army, determination hardening his voice.

Adam stepped up beside him. "Son, what are we going to do?"

Chase clenched his jaw, a fierce resolve in his eyes. "We fight with everything we have left."

He spared a thought for Sarah and John, hoping they were safe. But he forced himself to refocus as he looked out over the vast ranks of demons. He could hear their chants, feel their confidence. They were certain they would claim Heaven as their own, and their smirking faces filled him with fury.

The angels took a collective breath, readying themselves. And then, with a roar, Chase led the charge, sword raised high. His yell was joined by the voices of the remaining angels as they charged toward the advancing demons, closing the distance in seconds.

With a resounding clash, the two armies collided, swords and axes clashing as lightning and fire burst through the air. Chase fought with every ounce of strength he had, his blade flashing as he cut through demon after demon. But just as he struck down one, another took its place, and it felt as if for every demon they killed, two more appeared.

A massive fireball exploded between the armies, sending both angels and demons flying back. Chase scrambled to his feet, looking around. Only 50 angels remained standing, their faces streaked with exhaustion. The sight nearly broke him—they were almost finished. But he forced himself to rise, slashing his way through the demon ranks until he reached the enemy's commander, driving his blade into the demon's chest.

With their leader fallen, the demon ranks wavered, but only briefly. Just as they began to rally, a blinding light cut through the battlefield. The entire realm was flooded with pure, radiant energy, and Chase shielded his eyes as the light swept across the demon army. The darkness that had cloaked them began to disintegrate, demons crying out in terror as they were burned, melted, or simply vanished into the light.

As the light faded, Chase looked up to see the battlefield cleared, the demons utterly destroyed. He turned, his eyes widening as he saw a figure standing atop a clouded hill, a staff in hand, his long, dark blonde hair and beard catching the glimmer of Heaven's light. He was of average height but radiated a divine power that was unmistakable.

"Who's that?" Jay whispered, his voice filled with awe.

Chase's heart caught in his chest. He knew exactly who it was. "It's... it's God," he murmured.

"Are you sure?" Jay asked, but the question was answered when the figure spoke.

"Hello, my children," God said, His voice warm and resonant, filled with an unearthly love. "I have missed you dearly."

Jay and the other angels walked toward the Lord, bowing low. Chase felt a deep sense of peace, as if a missing piece had been restored.

"Chase!" Sarah's voice broke his reverie as she ran up to him, throwing her arms around him in relief.

"Are you alright?" she asked, her face full of worry.

Chase smiled, nodding as he hugged her back. "Yeah, I'm fine. How about you, John?"

John walked over, a proud smile on his face. "We're good, don't worry."

Sarah looked past Chase, her eyes widening as she caught sight of God. "Is that...?"

Chase nodded. "Yes, that's Him."

Sarah's mouth opened in awe, then she managed a smile. "He's really back."

Jackson walked over, his face beaming. "Good to see you made it, Chase."

Chase chuckled. "I could say the same to you. But why are you smiling like that?"

Jackson gestured behind John, and Chase watched as John turned, his face breaking into stunned joy. Standing there was his wife, Nikki, just as he had remembered her.

"John, my love. You're still as handsome as the day I met you," Nikki said, her voice soft and filled with love as she embraced him.

"It's so good to see you," John whispered, holding her close.

Nikki looked over at Sarah, her eyes filled with pride. "You've grown so much, my little girl."

Tears slipped down Sarah's cheeks as she hugged her mother. "I missed you so much, Mom."

"I've been watching over you every day, hearing your prayers, just as your angel told you," Nikki whispered, stroking her daughter's hair.

As they embraced, Sarah glanced around at the remnants of the battlefield—the broken gates, the fallen angels, and the darkened clouds.

Chase put a hand on her shoulder. "It's alright, Sarah. We'll rebuild Heaven. And there will be more angels."

Sarah gave a small smile, feeling a glimmer of hope. Just then, God approached them, His gaze full of compassion.

"Does it ever get easier?" Sarah asked softly, looking up at Chase.

Chase took a breath, feeling the weight of her question. "I don't know. But... it probably won't," he admitted.

God placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "It will, in time, my child." He turned to Chase, His gaze both kind and powerful. "Chase, may I borrow you for a moment?"

Sarah nodded, smiling as she released Chase's hand. "You go ahead."

Chase looked at her, then at his father and Jackson, all standing together, their family whole once again. He gave them a reassuring nod before turning and following God, feeling an overwhelming sense of purpose as they walked toward the gleaming cloud castle.
